On our recent visit to the Pullman Washington area I used a GoPro Hero9 camera to video some of the landscape. The GoPro was mounted to front of the car and controlled by my IPhone while riding inside. In post editing the video's I was able to grab a 7meg single frame clip. This a capture of a single lighting bolt hitting the ground.

NO NO NO if you can do that with a " GoPro Hero9 camera" if so why would we buy DSLR. Admit you mounted your Canon DSLR on your hood and got this great shot.

Your photo has good composition, is filled with many interesting lines those being: power, road, brown horizontal, lightning, and skyline with a long narrow storm. The photo puts us there where we are in a surreal long road that we will drive on forever as our purgatory... and you, Fstop, for saying it was a GoPro.

That looks pretty good. I have a GoPro 9 too.
I have never tried this yet.

I would like to see the frames before and after this one. Was it all over and done in a few milliseconds?

Yes, when reviewing the video it happens is a split second. If you blink, you will miss it. I will try and edit out the before and after shots and let you know. The GoPro editing software is a bit cumbersome to use.

Funny dpullum. Yep, I was a bit surprised about the quality of capturing a single frame from a GoPro video as well. Thanks for the kind comments. I used a very easy GoPro mount from Snap Mounts to attach the camera to the car. It's magnetic and worked like a charm. We went over some very bumpy roads in the Palouse and it never shifted or came lose. Here's a link to the mounts if you are interested. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-707221-1.html

Here is the before, I won't post the after because it looks just like the before.

Yeah, it surprised me as well. I didn't think that a frame grab would give such a good file size.

Seems like a good use for the camera but what do you do about bugs on the lens?
