Eye cups—My One Complaint About Fujifilm

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this, and especially interested if you have found a solution. Fuji's eyecups, at least on my X-H1 and X-T2, are pieces of rubber mounted on a two piece plastic frame. It is all too easy to pull the rubber from the frame, for example by putting the camera back in a bag or brushing it against your body while using it. When that happens there is usually enough damage to the soft rubber so that it is not very successful to try to remount the eyecup on its frame.

So...am I the only one with this problem (I doubt it!)? More important, has anyone discovered a solution, maybe a third party eyecup? I know JJC makes one, but I do not have any reason to assume it will be more durable than the OEM.

Thanks for reading and please do let me know your experience and/or thoughts.

I've had eye cups come off a couple of cameras over the years. I don't recall the brand, though. Some adhesive would probably prevent that.

I have an X-Pro2 and my eye cup kept falling off and was eventually lost. I called Fuji and they said to send in the camera and there was a fix. They had to ut on a cup that has never come off. Call Fuji and see what they can do.

Wow! I have owned a XH-1 for a couple of years now. I have not experienced this problem. After I read your post I picked mine up and pulled at one edge of the eyecup. I did not take it off but it does seem like it would come off rather easily. On a side note, I love this camera and am eager to see what the XH-2 will offer.

I had a similar issue with a Sony a6000. Actually lost an eyecup while on a “camera walk.” I bought a couple replacement cups off eBay and with a couple tiny drops of superglue attached one to the body. This worked for me since I’ve never a reason to remove an eyecup. When I sold the camera, I disclosed what I’d done and passed along the extra eyecup. For the record, the drops were small enough that I’m confident I could’ve gotten the cup off with no damage to the body. Good luck!

Maybe a tiny dab of semi permanent adhesive (like a "white" glue that dries clear) in a "not easy to see" area.

I haven't seen the eyecup you're using, but it sounds like the rubber part comes off the plastic part that mounts the assembly to the camera. If so, why not put a few dabs of silicone sealant (clear or black) at points around the perimeter of the rubber part that fits onto the mounting.

I have an XT2 and never had a problem. Call Fuji technical support. They are very helpful.

Ben, I didn't like the eyecups on my Fuji X cameras. I replaced them with these (link below). They slide into the flash mount and won't come off off unless you pull them out by hand.
A Big improvement over the original eyecups! I have one on my Fuji X-T30 and my X-S10.
They are made for different Fuji models, just do a search.
