Exactly. This might make sport shooting guys who own one of these 2 brands very happy. I have never ever shot any sports and never will, so this info is irrelevant for me. I am totally happy with my Nikon Z bodies and Z lenses.

Many years ago, a photo instructor friend mused that in all his years of instruction, to hundreds of amateurs, pros and wannabes, he observed that the nikoners were the most obnoxious about their gear, than all other participants. He shot all the brands over the years, but most enjoyed Fuji, the photographer's camera, as he called it. The fact is, Nikon has fallen pretty far behind in the mirrorless race. I'll be keeping my 3 nikons. I don't think my photography will improve in any measurable way by switching to Sony, especially at age 75!! We all know this. The real tragedy here is the loss of so many other brands to the cell phone. I'm not sure we committed amateurs and the decreasing numbers of pros can even keep the remaining companies in business for long. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nikon give it up within 10 years. Not good for all of us.

That’s where the torch has been passed, it’s now the Canon and Sony owners that are most obnoxious about their gear. As for the cellphone killing the market, the biggest hit has been to the P&S sector. A cellphone camera is usually equal to if not superior to most P&S cameras. Professional photography is not dying, just changing. While some sectors have dried up the online world of today has created lots of opportunity. Besides vloggers, (while many start out using a cellphone many if them end up switching to mirrorless cameras for more capability), content creation is big. These people need equipment that excels at still photography and video. Adding video skills has become important to lots of photographers. Professional photography will continue to change with the times but it’ll be around for years to come.

What does the trend in pro sports photography have to do with selling ANYTHING ? Where was the word appearances even mentioned ? Why does everyone always have to personalize everything ? You bought your gear for a reason as we all did... is that reason any LESS VALID because someone else is using something else ? Way too much defensive posturing everywhere.

Just photo news folks. Nikons are still being used at the Olympics, but in the past it was mostly Nikon and Canon for sports pros. Now it is mostly Sony and Canon. A report back from an AP shooter there in Tokyo says all brands are being used, but more Canon and Sony.

And yes both Sony and Canon have bigtime Pro support going on there. Some of these shooters are supplied equipment by their media outlets, like all AP staff shooters are supplied Sony gear, but other wire service sports freelancers are using their own gear, whatever the brand or choice.

Hey I was Nikon and Canon pro shooter for 40 years and won sports photo awards, including World Press Awards with both brands before moving over to Sony. I have been an UHH member for four years and remember all the countless threads and comments that professionals weren't and would never use Sony. LOL

I wish Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus all the best. We need them all for a healthy and competitive camera market, that keeps them all innovating and we all win. Use what gear you love and don't feel upset in the least about what gear sports shooters are using at the Olympics. Just enjoy the great photos of your favorite athletes that all these top sports shooters are capturing.

Cheers

Except for fringe sports there are no true amateurs at the Olympics. Most team sports use pro players, tennis pros play, even the top track and swimming performers are essentially pros. They all have endorsements, sponsorships and get appearance fees.

Well if you're not interested in industry trends, fine, but don't complain when someone who is interested reports on topics like this.

On UHH I have only encounter 2 people really obnoxious about their brands. One Sony owner, who has come down to earth and usually passes on good information these days. The other is a Canon owner who does come across as being obnoxious to many. However, even some of his dry humor can be pretty funny if you have an open mind.

It would be nice if UHH had side rooms like some chat rooms had years ago. If 2 or 3 people took over a thread they were temporarily moved to a side room where they could bicker to their hearts content without bothering anyone else. I guess an issue today would be the number of side rooms you would need on UHH alone.

From what I've seen on this forum, there wouldn't be enough bandwith for all the side rooms that would be needed.

But is it humor?
His posts aren’t a spontaneous reaction to something that tickles his funny bone, but boilerplate comments, often off topic, that are repeated word for word over and over.

Because pros are NOT using Nikon any more.
It is a distant historical memory of old people trying to live in past memories like Al Bundy.

I would, respectfully, say 'bull'! This pro continues to use Nikon gear along with many other pros I know personally. I own a very complete and large Nikon system and I have no intention of buying a second one anytime soon. Competition between manufacturers is a very good thing for us all, regardless of brand. Best of luck,

Actually I think his comments are quite refreshing.... Most folks think Photographers are a humorless group of Nerds anyway, and a lot of posts on this site confirm this. WAY too much seriousness everywhere lately.
