Excellent reply, this is going to help him think through options. And as you suggested, either try it out first or rent one and put it through its paces.

I just bought a used 18-140 that I am starting to use. I also own the 18-200.

One of the reasons I got the 18-140 was the review from Thom Hogan. It is on his list of recommended Nikon DX lenses. The 18-200 is not on his recommended list because “Just doesn’t hold its own with the 24mp sensors. You can see that it’s not as sharp as the other super zooms Nikon made.”

I haven’t done a personal comparison. I like that the 18-140 is lighter. I know some people are happy with the 18-200. I seldom use mine lately.

You can notice 2.6 oz. difference in weight ?? i would think that would be so little you wouldn't notice .

I would hope that you as a member of the photographic community, understand it is important that when one takes their time to respond respectfully, you are respectful in kind.
If you do not recognize 2.6 oz others do, and so does a scale. That’s reality.
Be respectful always, others opinions based on fact matter.

It would be helpful when you reply to someone’s message that you Hit quote reply so we know who you are responding to.

Sorry, if I hurt your feelings. I thought it was a serious question . I don't believe I would notice 2 oz. I didn't realize people were so sensitive on this forum like I said I thought it was a serious question . You could have just replied that "yes , 2.6 oz does matter"

Your latest response is both negative and childish.
I recommend you stick to photography facts and not make things personal.

I had the 18-140 lens on my D7200 when I had it, and found it to be a very good, all around lens. It’s sharp, has little distortion of any kind, and I never found any color aberration.

My 18-140 came as a kit lens with my D7100. It was my favorite lens for a while. It's very versatile and great for travel. I do find that it has significant distortion, though. The amount and type vary with the focal length. Most Nikon cameras automatically correct for this distortion in-camera.

Your latest reply is both negative and childish also. I feel bad having to lower myself to your standards to try and have a civil discussion on this forum.

I asked a serious question and you responded with a degrading and harsh statement .
Considering you're a new member also ,perhaps you should stick to photography instead of belittling people for asking a question .

How am I to know how much a couple ounces effects someone without asking .

Yes you are correct! I have found that as perfect as the DX series of Nikon cameras may be, and even the Pro models go, there are no absolutes. However most photographers (armature and some Pros, don’t recognize the apparent flaws.) For the most part, these cameras and lenses are as perfect as Nikon can design them. As Tech improves so do cameras and lenses! Occasionally there is a total dud and they are replaced.
For the most part we are provided great equipment to invest in for our craft at good prices.
If you look for real perfection then one can upgrade to fantastic glass.
