The description seems pretty clear to me. It is a camera module designed to attach to a Raspberry Pi, which is a microcomputer on a board. The camera data is received by the "RasPi" as we sometimes call them, and can then be manipulated, saved to disk or flash memory, etc.

Thank you for your condescending response. I think others have provided enough information for me.

Mr. Photog,

You certainly sound very knowledgeable in this area. My hat is off to you. Would you know if this is the kind of camera/computer set up that would be roboticly used on Mars in the space explorers and other satellites sent to vast distances throughout the solar system? I always wondered what type of camera was used.

From what I understand, the computers NASA uses in space are often ancient, the shuttles were 486's I believe. They test things to death, at least for computers. Also, I suspect older chips (bigger transisters, etc.) would be more resistant to radiation effects.

The five computers in each of the space shuttles each used the same processors as IBM mainframes. Technology from the early/mid 1960s. If only they'd had 80486 CPUs...

Raspberry pi's are also used in various forms of communication, as in ham radio they used to create hotspots for digital mobile radio and others. All of which require an internet connection, but then allows us to talk around the world. DE n3fvp
