This is a cruel roundup. Many horses die needlessly. They are in completely uninhabited area, and are no problem.

If you want to fix take pictures here is a link to info and how to get to the area where they roam.

Here is a link with more info, and how to help protest the roundup, a the are more humane ways to limit the growth of the heard.

You want to photograph Wild Horses you should check out Mowdy Mustang Ranch in Oklahoma near Colgate, OK. MOWDYRANCH.com. 580 927-5093. They have four hundred Mustang Mares rescued from Nevada. They are expecting an additional 200 in the near future. The Mowdy’s are great people who take care of these beautiful horses.

They take you out to different areas of the 4500 acre ranch where you will come up close to the horses and watch them run. Here is a video I took. You can see some of my photos on my website. rvsrleygallery.smugmug.com.

I was interested in learning more about this wild horse group and went to the link. The weirdest thing popped out at me in light of this being a link about the WILD horse descendents of the pony express horses. The left hoof of the dun has obvious shoe and nail impressions showing. No doubt, some ranch horses are 'put out to pasture' and join up with the wildies. Guess only a photographer would note such small details. But how incongruous for a promotional image!
That said, from the heart of a life-long horseperson, all groups striving to better the situation of wild horses are to be commended and supported. And if tourism from photographing the roundups increases awareness, all the better. Thanks for sharing these links, Frank.

Frank, they said they are bringing in 200 more, but I don't recall where they are coming from. You are probably right.
