I have a Sony a6600, great camera however I can’t get seem to find how to put it in sleep mode to conserve my battery. I have searched YouTube and other sources but nothing. On the menu it’s under Setup 2, “Power Save Start Time” I have tried different times settings, but it just won’t go to sleep mode. Any advise is great appreciated.

Can you do a restore to factory settings by installing the firmware again? That should cure any system software issues.

Should be something in the menu settings.
There is for my Canon.
What does the manual say about it?

Great information and more detailed than any manufacturer's manual I've ever seen. I know from experience that when in the field hurriedly changing one menu setting it's easy to inadvertently change something else.

Hope the video helps the OP.

Thanks for the advise, I'd tried but it still the same. The camera refuses to go nite-nite.

Have you tried the Camera Settings Reset -- Initialize procedure? That should take you back to square one like the first time you turned the camera on.

Also have you checked that you have the most recent firmware version?

Thirdly, if memory serves, there is buried somewhere in the menu system a "Demo mode" designed for retailers who want to keep the camera active when sitting on a shelf. Make sure that's not set to "on."

Lastly you might try putting it in "airplane mode" to make sure there's no surreptitious Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection interfering with the power save function. I keep mine in airplane mode anyway since these connections do require battery power.

Here's a list of suspects from Sony:

Good morning, Thank you so much for all your suggestions. I did everything mentioned and still nothing. I'll keep trying before going to my last resort which is the factory reset.

Under the Setup menu, on my Sony it is under this heading, "Power Save Start Time, you can set it for 10 sec., 1, 2, 5, and 30 minutes.
I have mine at 5 minutes because if it goes to sleep and I see a bird the camera has to wake up and I sometimes will miss the shot. So I set it at 5 minutes and then every few minutes I take the shutter button to start the sequence over again.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
Make sure the setting is locked in, otherwise it won't work.
If this does not work call Sony.

One last thought. Is this happening when you are carrying the camera in hand or on a strap, when the camera is sitting still on a table, or both? If it's only when the camera is in motion, it could be the setting for the sensor that switches between the LCD and EVF when you raise the camera to your eye.

Here's what I did:

Even though the EVF uses more power than the LCD, use it instead of the LCD (especially in sunny weather) and turn the LCD off: MENU --> 3 --> FINDER/MONITOR --> Viewfinder. When you’re not using the viewfinder, the camera turns both displays off.

Gary, I finally got it resolved. I went to Sony's support and chatted with a tech, we went through some of the settings you had mentioned and this time it worked. I must have screwed up while changing the settings. My hat off to you for all your help and suggestions and importantly your patience. Can't thank you enough.
