Now that you mention it. I have in the past and didn’t have this problem. Thought I was losing my mind. Thank you!

Jerry, I have a couple of pairs of clicks for that very reason. I can adjust the diopter so that I don’t need the clicks, but if I want to use the view screen, they are there.

I second the Cliqs. I have them around my neck at all times.

If you don't have Rx glasses but need a diopter for close-up, Clics are very handy.
And they don't dangle and get in the way.

Thanks. 20% discount right now.

I’m hoping someone has a suggestion. I wear transition lenses…..they darken in the sun. When it is bright, I cannot see my exposure meter in the viewfinder. If I remove my glasses, my vision is such I cannot tell where the exposure is…left, right, center. I have not tried liveview as that has it’s own set of problems in bright sunlight. I shoot with a Canon 77D in manual. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you…..

I also wear transitions. Have you thought about using the viewfinder diopter control wheel? I normally have the control set for when I use with my glasses on so everything's in focus.

However, on bright sunny days my transitions get very dark like yours. In those situations, I re-adjust the diopter to use the viewfinder without my glasses.

It took a bit of practice to figure out how many clicks of the diopter wheel were needed with and without glasses, but now that I know, resetting the diopter to my needs at that moment is not difficult.

Of course, depending on how bad your eyes are, the diopter may not give you enough of a range to use your viewfinder without glasses.

I also wear those types of glasses and on top of the color change mine are progressive lens.
I have been with the same Optometrist for over 30 years (two owners and now my third doctor) and they do something really nice for me. They give me a discount on the extra exams and second Rx for contacts and give me a few pairs of the samples of "one use contacts" the sales reps leave them (they have a big drawer full). If I am going to be doing a lot of photography I wear a pair and have a very good pair of polarized sun glasses. They usually give me about 4 sets and if I use them all I just take the Rx into Costco and buy a small pack of the one time use.

Theresa,
PixelStan has the correct response. I myself use his method. Works great…
Best Regards and good luck.

I have transition lenses also. But when I got my new pair, I forgo the transition's because I had problems seeing properly my images on the rear screen or trouble with not seeing the scene properly through the viewfinder because my glasses were so dark due to the transition lenses when I was out shooting.
So when I got my new pair I got plain Jane lenses, then I got sunglass clip-on's from the drug store for $10.00. When I go shooting I use the non transition's, when I am not shooting I have a regular pair of transition's.
Actually it was a cheap fix.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I had the same problem. Bought another pair of glasses (clear) and use a set of the old clip on flip up sunglasses. Works great for me.

I gave up my transition glasses for just this reason. My current glasses have tiny magnets for sunnies that I’ll remove when shooting.

Maybe a dumb question, Have you tried adjusting your cameras viewfinder diopter to match your vision? Usually a small wheel near the viewfinder.

If you are able to purchase another pair of glasses with clear glass, try using with over-glasses sunglasses. You can simply push them onto top of your head when changing settings and composing. I found this solution far superior to transitional lenses.

There is one drawback, though, if you purchase the polarizing kind: they can interfere with the display. First time I wore, the image in my LCD looked fine in horizontal position, but disappeared when turned vertically! (mirrorless Panasonic G7)
If you are able to purchase another pair of glasse... (show quote)

I have worn this type sunglasses for years. Love them. Other similar brands: Fitovers, Cocoons.

You really don't want this suggestion. Leave these glasses at home and get a pair of regular lenses for this application. I actually stopped wearing these lenses for general usage. They darken much quicker than lightening. They are a convenience that have no place in photography b/c of that trait. Photography requires good vision and these lenses do not allow this. You are hurting your chances for successful photographs by wearing these lenses. You are correct that it shouldn't be complicated.

Transitions are nice for some outdoor activities.I bought my first pair last year. I realized my mistake on my first photo shoot with them Fortunately my regular glasses were in my car and I swapped so I could see. I keep my regular glasses with magnetic sunglass attachment in car for driving. Transitions don't work in the car (car windows block uv rays). Sometimes we learn the hard way🤪. Another lesson learned the hard way...don't buy a camera without a viewfinder.....
