A very nice day trip about 50 miles away. What do you suppose caused this rock to be split like this?

Great shots from an interesting area. I expect time, gravity and erosion took their toll on the rock. As Gollum said
"This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down."

I'm thinking it fell out of an alien spacecraft and hit just right. Only logical explanation.

Great cracked boulder. Undoubtedly a message from Q. Or it fell out of an alien spacecraft and hit just right. 50-50 chance for either.

Nice shots of those rock formations!

The cracking is caused by old age. When get as old as those rocks something is bound to break — where do you think pebbles come from? 🤔

Stan

I always thought pebbles were rock seeds...if you plant them and water them, they grow into great big rocks.

What puzzles me are the right angle splits. I wonder how those occurred.

I'm with you. Straight angles in nature make me wonder.
