This is a magnified view of the fangs of the Brown Recluse that I posted the other day. They are not as large as many others yet with a venom that turns its prey into "spider soup" they don't need to be.

Another nice closeup Sippy. The fangs may not be long but they are robust for a spider that small

Oh, Curmudgeon, I surely would not want them to clamp down on me.

When I was 16, our home did not have central air, but it had two window units. I used to make a pallet under one of them and sleep there in order to be cool. One morning I woke up and found a brown recluse squashed in my bedding. I also had a bite on my arm. It took a year for the wound to heal up and just before it healed, black goop spilled out of the wound site and down my arm. Very icky, especially since it happened in class.

A friend of mine was bitten on her face many years ago by one of these things and she still has a scar. With venom like they carry it doesn't take much of either fang or venom

Great shot. I'll take my dykes and snip off the ends

Thanks, it's nice...or perhaps not so nice...to know that others can relate to how the Brown Recluse has earned it's reputation.

Unfortunately, they have a deep family resemblance.

Well...when I was a lad the only way that I could get our dog to play with me is if I had a porkchop tied around my neck.
