It fell off the dock into ±2 feet of lake water! Underwater for less than 10 seconds. About 3 tablespoons of water is visible behind the big front glass. I was hoping it was between the front glass and clear filter but it was not the case. I kept it upright (camera side up) on the workbench for 24 hours and water is slowly coming out. Now, it is at an angle as seen in the picture. I searched the Web for dismantling, but found nothing? The Dealer says Sony will not touch (try to fix) a lens that went underwater for obvious reasons. I will check with home insurance...? Credit card had limited coverage, but is now out of delay. Very well seems like a write off...
Good news, the attached a6000 dried up under the sun, and upon turn on asked to select time zone, set the date and time, which had me worrying? Now it seems to work just fine! Sensor will need cleaning to get rid of the water stains.
Any positive thoughts?
Thanks, Louis
Be grateful the landing zone was not concrete.
Cameras don’t fall of the dock. 🙁🙁
Forget Sony, Send it to a good independent photo repair shop quickly ! !
.
...think of all the people you just helped learning from your mistake...? There are some things on the web that discusses removing moisture from inside a lens...good luck with it...
Did you contact Sony directly? This kind of damage is likely excluded from warranty coverage, but they might give you an estimate for the repair if you pay. And they have much less incentive than a local dealer to sell you a new lens!
Here's a contemporaneous thread on Sony repair:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-698679-1.htmlWorst case scenario is to sell it for parts on eBay, since even if the electronics are beyond repair the glass is still good.
Part of why I have USAA's Valuable Personal Property policy. Covers anything that happens anywhere with a $50.00 deductible. Most homeowner's/renter's insurance companies have similar policies. My gear is covered for $130.00/year.
Currently working or not, that lens is no longer one that can be relied upon.
Too bad, things happen.
Holy Smokes. As mentioned, contact Sony.. I fell off boat into 5ft of water with camera and lens. Both were sent in and fixed. Still using the lens two years later, but have upgraded the camera. Still cheaper than replacing.........
Don't give up yet; this is a USD 2,000 (CAD 2,400) piece of glass!
As a past electronic repairman, I can tell you once electronics get wet, the clock is ticking on failure. No matter what you did, corrosion has started.

I’ve done that. No fun.
Nikon F4, 35-70 lens. Metz 402 quick release failure picking the camera up off of a desk by the flash to grab the camera strap. The PC cord did *not* act like a bungee. Filter dented and cracked, the F4 was a goner. Pressure plate ejected and probably sailed 2 feet.
