This robin built her nest on the rail of the big sliding door of my shop.

A Kookaburra from Down Under! Kookaburras are best known for their unmistakable call, which sounds uncannily like loud, echoing human

Grant, I really like that first one, what a catch

Thanks ggiaphotos, they hang out in our back yard every day, keeping the Kangaroo's company.

Grant: It sure is great for you to share your work. I had not seen a photo of a kookaburra except in a book. I think they are cool. The description makes me wonder what they sound like.
We have a bird up here called the mockingbird. They are bullies like a cardinal but one good trait they have is imitating other bird songs. They sit in the very tops of a tree and string up to two dozen calls into a melody to woo their mate or tell others that it is their territory. I will dig to find a photo and post it soon.

Robins are very skittish. How did you get that shot?
I hope you had another door to get in the shop.

No unfortunately it's a fixed lens camera. It does have alot of ISO settings & white balance settings and a powerfull 36X (864 MM) zoom lens which I had full out for the humming bird. I was actually about 25 feet away sitting on my pic-nic table with a mini tripod.

I find the zoom lenses on these two cameras quite impressive!

I use an Oly D390 at the shop for Power Point photos because the size of the picture is just right. Having a sharp edge to edge photo from a P&S is a always game winner. It sounds like a good topic to start. Pro full / half frame or point&shoot. Second thought... It might turn into the OK coral.

I stood on top of my pickup and used a long zoom lens. I didnt want to scare her off.
It was kind of a pain not using the shop bay. I got lucky and managed to get by without it until they were able to fly. Next year I'm going to make sure that there is no nest built there.

Now that I have your attention....
Post a bird photo today. That simple.
Red, green, blue, polka dot it doesn't matter. Even stuffed is okay, especialy with the holiday coming up.
One simple rule. Make a comment but don't use quotes. Just quick reply if you don't have a bird to flip to the others.
Okay now... FLIP ME A BIRD

A little crow that needed xtra help getting food - others were picking on her and steeling the food.... we'd been providing a few bits every day. I happend to glance out the back window to see her looking at me - got camera and went outside, she decided to show me she was hungry - we never heard her make a sound. We named her Elsie - she's our friend now :)

Elsie (LC-Little Crow)
