Yup...it's a crop sensor and designed for industrial use...but it's all coming down the pipeline to Full Frame.

Cellphones are coming up from the bottom like a Humpback whale striking 4/3's krill.

FF has to go somewhere to make them irreplaceable...and for now...that's up.

Industrial use - robot vision. Requirements for that have nothing to do with art or human vision.

No one said art isn't integral...but even painting has a math component.
Photography...even more so.

He deflects away from the pure math involved in blowing up a 4 MP image to 40" by 30"...pure math issue.

He thinks 'art' does the work of printing...lol.

Well, that was a verrrrrry brief spell of agreement. Guess good stuff comes in small packages.

Back when I worked fore the US Department of forestry as their technical photographer I would have "NEEDED" one for certain. I'd start writing grants for complete with the best glass. When I got it I'd immediately mount on the Carl Zeiss photo-microscope and start shooting.

Technical photographers will probably love the thing if the glass is up to the job.

Yes Paul...

I do find that the images that inspire me the most always seem to have the most pixels. INCLUDING MY OWN! I can barely believe that I recently took this beauty after being out of photography for over forty years and not knowing about all of the advances in digital photography that had taken place. I had pixels to burn with my new full frame camera and software that did amazing things.

I was used to shooting Tri-X, black and white, 400 ASA, 36 exposure film and pushing it two F stops in my basement photo lab. Even with all that, I still wasn't able to open the shadows on the indoor soccer players faces when they were looking down at the ball with a green carpet on the floor that soaked up light. Exactly, there is nothing deep down inside us that can't be fixed by a larger sensor.

But what if there is a mirror in front of it?

What good is more pixel resolution when your camera still has a mirror?

So, you have a 24MP sensor and lust after 36MP or more, understandable. But, far from the statement that more MP automatically = superior results. And this has been rebutted by many, many UHH'ers here.

To paraphrase Ansel, "the most important measurement is the 12" behind the camera"

A good photograph has the most pixels.
A good photographer has a mirrorless camera.
Everyone knows.

Since I never commented on that sensor for photography or art ... meh.

I don't know. If a professional photographer shoots two page spreads for a living, and a 30mp professional camera and a 1000mp professional camera (costing 10 times the 30mp camera) can be bought, and there is no different with the two page spread no matter which camera is used, which camera makes the best business decision to purchase? Spend the 10 times more for zero increase in results? Which one fits the business plan for the most profitability? Boy, looks like a very tough decision - not!

It always comes down to buying the right tool for covering your requirements. One can always rent any equipment for any jobs outside your norm. 20mp will cover my needs with careful shooting (30X40 print) and 30mp will not require as much care and will allow me to possibly go larger than 30X40. 100mp? I will leave that for the pros, the rich, and people who need to have the best no matter what the cost. And if the 30mp to 50mp category covers 95% plus of the pros, the remaining less than 5% will justify all the R&D and manufacturing for all the increased cost for 150mp to 300mp sensors for 35mm in a tight market?

For me, that means that I am one less sale even at a 4/3rds body sensor at 35mp or more. How many other photographers feel the same?

There are no secrets to success in photography. You need the best equipment to create the best images.

The best equipment helps the best photographers to make the best images. There are photographers out there with the absolute best equipment and there are pros with lesser equipment that will out shoot them every day. There are photographers that have bought way beyond both their wants and needs just because it is the best equipment. 100mp will be way beyond the majority of photographers needs and wants. They will not produce the best images and they will have wasted their hard earned money doing so. Your statement, "You need the best equipment to create the best images", implies one should buy beyond their level of competency rather than move up to better equipment as they meet a better level of competency with new needs and wants. There are, in my opinion, a majority of photographers out there that 100mp will not improve their photography and produce those "best" images.

An artist can capture beauty with any camera. The rest of us need the best camera.
