Don't laugh! How bad could a $30 Sunlea Tech "kids camera" be as a shirt pocket "emergency camera" for occasionally photographing something on my morning walk that isn't worth rushing home to retrieve my Canon? Since a tiny camera like that will eventually fall out of my pocket, never to be seen again, or will end up in the washing machine, cheap is good. 386 Amazon customer ratings is 71% 5 or 4 stars. The other 29% probably expected too much. I don't own a cell phone and don't want one, although just for their amazing photo quality. it is a temptation.

For $30, what do you have to lose (besides 30 bucks) ???

Even if it is crap, it's bound to be better than an old Kodak Disk camera.

Why not just take your Canon in the first place.

Cameras are like jigsaw puzzles...
MP is only one piece of the puzzle...don't be dazzled by 30MP...which is the marketing hook.

I have an old 3 megapixel Olympus camera that would no doubt eat it alive, image quality wise. There's far more to the equation than the number of pixels.

30 MP of fuzziness!

High megapixel count doesn't really mean anything if the optics are simply not good enough to take advantage of all those pixels. For example, if you had a 50 MP camera and captured images through a plastic bag, the images won't be nearly as good as shooting a 14 MP camera without the bag.

And for $30, you can get a budget smartphone (without a data contract) that will likely take just as good pictures and videos as the Sunlea Tech camera, if not better. Plus, the smartphone will offer plenty of other useful features that are absent on the Sunlea Tech camera - setting alarms, taking notes, listening to music, etc. If you want an inexpensive camera, just buy a budget smartphone. Even without a data contract you can get plenty of use out of it. Look upon the smartphone as a miniature computer you can carry everywhere.

Get a cell phone. You don't have to get a sim card. You will have an excellent camera capable of stills and movies as well as a capable computer that can do internet with wifi.
Without the sim card it won't function as a phone so you'll still have your personal autonomy.

For less than $30 you can get a used Sony S-85 on ebay. It's a 4MP camera with a Zeiss lens. HD computer monitors and televisions only display 2MP. That was my first digital camera and I still have it. It's a real camera. Look at the one star ratings and sample photos for the "30mp" piece of junk and believe them.

I totally agree, Bob. Coincidentally, it was my first digital camera as well. It was a 4.1mp camera. Recently donated it to a local school. I bought it in 2002?, took it to Europe in 2004 and took some beautiful images. One image from Venice won a Best In Show local award, and I have it as a 12 X 16 metal print hanging in my house.
Only downside I could see would be the size. It’s not exactly a pocket camera. Large coat camera, yes, but not one you can slip in your pants pocket.

We are assuming the photos will be no good, but I'd say try it. Then we can have a report from actual data. --Richard

Seen on WISH? I have thought about lots of stuff like this. It all comes down to one thing for me: You get what you pay for
