There are so many factors to consider... ambient lighting, tripod or freehand... lens, etc. One of MY best moon shots was at:

ISO 200
350mm (with an EXII 2x doubler, 1.6 crop factor)= 1120mm
f/5.6
0.0025s (1/400)

But, I shot the orangish Lunar Eclipse at: ISO 100, f/5.6, 0.005s (1/200)

F-11, ISO 200, 4.0A, 30 sec. shutter.

The moon is harder to shoot than you may think. Good luck!

(reduced quality photo than the original)

I can not obtain the crater detail I like. Have to haul out the heavy Meade if I want to get past the light pollution.
I love the night sky and must travel 75 minutes to get away from light pollution. It is all the fault of Edison, you know.

for the best crater detail avoid the full moon. shoot the halves and quarters. a full moon is like shooting outdoors at noon, the harsh light washes out the details. and always shoot from a tripod w a remote and mirror lockup or timer. turn off the is/vr mode.

Go over to the thread entitled, "HDR Moon"; it's got good tips, settings, pics, etc... and some good full moon shots.
