Beautiful car and beautiful photo, Hereford. Bet you'd love to have it back. I had a '67 Cougar I would love to have back.

You are probably wondering, "What is a pet car." I have a very simple definition. It's a car you want, but definitely do not need. I have owned three pet cars in my lifetime.
My first was this 1956 Studebaker Power Hawk. It was a car I wanted in 1956. but could not afford. I pulled this car from a junk yard in 1973 for $100.00 and fully restored it myself except for the body work and paint. This model came with a 259 V-8 and two barrel carb, but I refitted it with a Stude 289 V-8 with Carter AFB 4-barrel. It had the Borg Warner three speed with overdrive that I loved. It was the love of my life for 12 years.

Enjoyed the shot and the story Hereford!
Beautiful restoration. Studebaker was so far ahead of their time in styling.
Another Raymond Loewy design.
Fantastic machine Hereford!
I owned a 1955 Studebaker, body was the same except for the grill, which was horizontal instead of the vertical square. Otherwise the same. Mine was Prima red with black top. Drove it for about 10 years--approx 250k miles. Had very little trouble except for a truck load of generators & starters (these were made by G M--Delco). Great car---still miss it ---Henry Wattenbarger.
Studebaker made some very good looking, and fast, cars. Their lines were more streamlined and aerodynamic in my mind. My brother owned two. Unfortunately, like several other car companies, they were overpowered by the "Big Three."
My dad had a few Studebakers. His 1955 Commander had a V8, and it would scoot. I remember changing the Spark plugs required it be on a lift because the compartment fit was so tight. A beautiful and very comfortable car.
Studebakers require a special taste. Like Speyside Scotch. Not for everybody, but satisfying for the ones who love them.
Nice work. Enjoy this great looking car.
