I don't like to tell people what they should do since everyone's tastes differ but I truly enjoyed a day trip to Monhegan Island reached by a passenger ferry. I would return since it was such a visual feast.
The ferries run from Port Clyde, New Harbor and Boothbay, so could likely fit in your trip planning, and well, well worth the effort.
If you want/can stay over I can recommend the Island Inn.

We enjoyed Port Clyde and the boat trip to Mohegan Island.
Camden and Rockport harbors, Friendship harbor, Port Clyde, Marshall Point Lighthouse, Monhegan Island, Curtis Island Light, Owl Point Lighthouse, Cape Neddick Lighthouse.
Portland Head Light is a must.
THANK YOU ALL for these recommendations! This is exactly the information that I was hoping for.--Jeff
I was stationed outside of Bangor Maine when in the Air Force. My wife and I bought a house in Delaware. Our next door neighbors were (wife from Lincoln Maine) and we had been Maine several times. Enjoyed Maine. Our neighbors retired to Maine. Their son, son-in-law and I spent an extra-long weekend closing the house up so they could survive winter. Sadly, they have passed away. The house now belongs to the daughter and we have visited them. I also recommend Corea-By-the-sea as a low pressure non commercial rustic relaxed place that has a lobster co-op in the harbor. Very relaxing and friendly people. We took our dog who got along well with the local dogs. Water in the harbor is too cold for swimming, as our dog found out.
Penobscot Narrows Bridge
Along route 1
Stockton Springs, ME
World's tallest public bridge overlook
Worth the stop for the view from the top of the bridge.
Wow, I could give you a hundred things to get photos of, this photo is of Bass Harbor Lighthouse outside of Bar Harbor, you have six lighthouses around Portland, the Old Town is photo worthy. You have an awesome transportation museum in Owl's Head. LL Bean is great. The whale trips in Bar Harbor is a must go. And the Bar Harbor Whale Tour Company offers tours of a lighthouse photo cruise along with cruises to see whales, puffins, and so many other neat things. Hope this helps. I could go to Maine and spend 6 months and still not get everything.
