Greetings,
My Canon EOS Rebel T2i was dropped into a rogue wave and the salt water destroyed the camera body & lens. I
am looking for replacements, either Canon or Sony for below $1,500 including body & lens. I shoot mostly outdoor
sports & indoor sports, at distances from 20' - 200'. I also shoot birds in flight & landscapes. I would like to buy a
camera body, either DSLR or mirrorless & a zoom lens with a max. focal length of at least 200mm, with a low f/2.8
aperture. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.

90D hands down.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1522797-REG/canon_eos_90d_dslr_camera.htmlThis is the best and highest resolution DSLR.
Incredible AF (one of the best made) and with DPAF the video is second to none.
10-11 fps is also one of the fastest APSC DSLRs available.
And finally a vari-angle touch screen that I believe no other APSCs in it's class even have. Helps with low angle shots so you do not have to lay on the ground to get them.
In your price range and will last for a long time.

I'm really happy with my T8i, as I am with both my T4i and T1i, considered a Canon mirrorless but saw no advantage if I did not choose to change all my lenses. I do frequently use a Sigma 17-70 f2.8/f4 instead of the kit lens, in fact for the T8i I bought body only, have two kit lenses if I want something lighter to carry.
Bob if you want something light to carry may I suggest canon pancake 24 and 40 mm F2.8 lenes. It's like no lens, and price $100-$125. look for sales. They also have a 50 mm but I know nothing about it.
The 24 is a great walk-around lens.
I have a 77D, T7i, T3i, Xsi, and have never had issue.
I agree with Paul I got the 18-135 kit lens and the 75-275 zoom. I know there is also a 75-300 but I think that's not as good. Don't rely on me for the 75-300 lens info.

👍👍 Excellent suggestions. Another alternative is a gently used Canon 5D MkIII and a EF 70-200 f2.8L MKI or any of the primes mentioned by Paul above if you want to take a shot at full frame.
My first thought exactly!!
90D for sure. I am amazed how much better this camera is compared to the 200D that replaced my T2i - (not really replaced, I may give it to one of my kids)
It has options I hadn't even thought of before. I had more than a few "Wow! That's really cool!" when checking it out.
Have you guys read the OP's post? He wants a camera WITH A 200 F/2.8 LENS - and the BUDGET is $1,500! A 90D alone eats up $1,200. The lens OP wants isn't cheap.

I went from the T2i to the 70D then the 80D with no regrets. The 70 or 80 with the 18-135 lens is most useful and will cover almost all photo situations. Go for it!

I agree the 80D and the 18-135 stm lens is a winning combination!
A few years ago I suffered from a rogue person stealing my 50D, which at 16MP was about equivalent to your T2i. I looked at teh T8,7, and teh *)D. I chose the EOD 77D with the same sensor because it was significantly lighter than the 80D, had a generation newer version of the software.
Prices for it, and they're available Refurbished, have come down and could prove to be a bargain. I;ve had it for 3 years and still love it, especially for its usability and weight.
