Manual in my post was Manual Focus

Thought we were discussing exposure.
I learned to shoot in manual back in the 50's but I think my R6 is better than me these days

Another option is shooting in "P" PROGRAM mode. Similar to AUTO, with auto focus plus the options to change aperture and/or shutter speed.
Exactly! And in Program mode there is also exposure compensation available (should the situation calls for it), giving the photographer no less control than shooting in Manual mode.
I prefer aperture priority. I adjust my shutter speed by adjusting the aperture. I only change ISO on the fly if there is a drastic change in light condition.
Do get in the habit of using the exposure compensation feature, which can be very helpful if your subjects pass in front of bright and dark background. Consider a bird with a bright sky background flying in front of some dark green trees.
That's what works for me, but maybe not for you.

Wait until the purveyors of "Manual" show up here and start telling everyone that you're not a "photographer" unless you shoot manual!
Such a one-sided, opinionated, holier-than-thou, thought.
But that's just MY opinion.
You ought to be ashamed of yourself, talking like that!
I suppose you shoot JPEG SOOC too - BLASPHEMY!
Jerry, play with the camera and enjoy, there is no right or wrong, find and use what works for you, I'm old fashion, been playing with these black boxes for the past 62 years. 90% of the time I shoot M with Auto ISO, f8 at 2000 for BIF. Love the challenge but naturally don't get it right all the time but have enough keepers to keep me happy. I do cheat a bit and have a custom setting for Aperture Priority and another custom setting again for Aperture Priority with a plus + 1 stop and - 1 stop bracketing, these are for days when the sun plays peek a boo with the clouds. Keep shooting and try everything until you find your sweet spot.

Fear of the Professional mode defeats more photographers than any other setting on their camera.
"Program mode (the "P" on the mode dial of most DSLRs) means that the camera still sets the exposure for you. It chooses the correct aperture and shutter speed for the light available, so your shot is correctly exposed. Program mode also unlocks other functions that give you more creative control over your images."

The best mode is your own mode!

HELL NO, I shoot RAW+JPEG.
Comes SOOC and goes SITE (Straight Into The Editor)
to make it the way I want. THEN people see it.
SOOC is just another holier-than-thou thing.
Oh, it might contribute to less editing, or none.
A thing for which obsessed perfectionists strive.
It's THEIR contest! They get an SOOC, THEY WIN!!!
Me: If it happens, nice.
(Just my opinion.....
)
I don't understand using one set up. I use what I find best for the situation. You got the choices use them.

Agreed. It depends on the situation. I know press photographers in an emergency shoot auto program SOOC. Ken Rockwell actually boasts he's on auto SOOC all the time.

I believe that press photographers shouldn't manipulate images.
Maybe some brightening or darkening depending on the result, but nothing else.

If you read Rockwell closely, you'll see he adjusts the camera parameters to achieve his desired SOOC 'look'. So, his camera and images are not 'out of the box SOOC'. Rather, he pumps up the saturation and sharpening in the camera using the ability to edit these picture 'styles / profiles'. His SOOC JPEGs will look different than your SOOC unless you make similar edits into the camera.

Simply "pre-edits" in the camera setup.
I have my camera set to do some, but I still usually tweak them, to my liking, in an editor if I feel they are warranted.
Pre-edits are not always "perfect", and I use the term loosely.
BTW - I don't read Rockwell.
