My wife and I were driving through Black Point Wildlife drive in central Florida when we saw a column of coots coming out of the water. The birds did not fly away at first but stayed in place. As things cleared we saw a Bald Eagle in the mist and by time we got to a spot where I could take photos the eagle was in the water. The eagle stayed there for a few moments and then started to fly away but was having trouble. In the photos you can see the eagle trying to pull something heavy out of the water. We noted that the object was a coot. Apparently the eagle drowned the coot. Now the eagle had to lift a water logged coot and fly to a near by dry area for lunch. Have never seen this behavior before.
Great series Labtrainer.

Really nice captures! I once saw a red shouldered hawk drown a coot in a similar way by standing on it for a long time. Just stood on it not moving.......I guess you get your prey any way you can!
Awesome sequence!! We saw an eagle swimming once.... figured out that it had a duck and was bringing it to shore....never saw anything close to that again.
