The Central Coast is a great area for photos. Attatched a view from the Boardwalk connecting Grand Ave to Pismo.
The Pier area is also great. We walk both regularly.
Morro Bay area is also great. Walk the Elfin Forrest on the south side of the estuary.
Enjoy

Go to Harmony, just south of Cambria. Tell Arica that Don and Lora sent you.... it's a hidden historical treasure .... love it

Montana de Oro State Park is wonderful for water birds and tidepools.
Get there at low tide and ware shoes that can get wet.

Go to Avila Beach/Pier. Beautiful artsie little 1 street town w/shops. Drive to the end of avila beach drive til you come to a pier. On the right is a cafe called Fat Cats, great food, great fish n chips. Tell Carl the Owner hello. You can drive out on to the pier or walk it. Great shots from the pier, sometimes whale come into the bay there, very scenic!

Has anyone been to Pismo Beach area? I will fly into San Luis Obispo on Sunday and will have an afternoon to kill and I think the beach is fairly close. Wondering about finding places to park, any bird areas etc.
Thanks Beth

You will get lots of advise for lots of towns and spots to visit. All good if it’s your first visit to the area.

Plan your time to look around and shop and take in the sights. Keep your eye on the time, and plan to finish your day at the waters edge.

Try to plan the end of your day to align with the sunset for the grand finally. At a minimum, plan for at least an hour before sunset to get into position with your wide angle lens and settings ready, positioning yourself as close to an unobstructed view of the horizon where the sky and ocean meet.

If your trip is blessed with clear sky and good weather, you will be enchanted by the spectacular sunset photo op as the sun submerges into the pacific.

Pismo is one of my favorite places along the Central California coast. There’s a ‘downtown’ area that’s about 2 blocks long and about 2 blocks wide usually inhabited by wondering tourists and some locals. There’s a pier to walk to, actually connected to the west end of ‘downtown’, about a mile or so north of ‘downtown’ but still in the residential area, is a little island, maybe an acre in size maybe 50 yards off shore where literally thousands of pelicans gather for tea and crumpets (or whatever pelicans gather for) and can provide interesting photo-ops, especially with a longer lens. A very small town about 10 miles north of Pismo is Avilla Beach (exit off the 101 at the sign and head west). If you really want to get more of a feeling of a sea coast town, complete with fishing fleet, go west on Highway 1 from San Louis Obispo to Morrow Bay and wander to find interesting things to photograph. About 30 miles north of Morrow Bay is Cambria, a few miles north of Cambria is the world famous Hearst Castle which you can get glimpses of from the road, and about 5 miles north of that is the elephant seal mating area, that’s a very ‘g’ rated attraction, in case you were wondering, but you can get to within about 10 yards away, safely, because the seals are on the beach and you’re above on a little cliff the seals can’t climb. Anywhere you go, you will have tons of interesting things to photograph, parking is rarely an issue, traffic is almost non-existent and the people are friendly. Have a great time.
Pismo is one of my favorite places along the Centr... (show quote)

This is a pretty accurate assessment of Pismo and the adjoining area. The only thing he left out were the Sand Dunes and the cliffs of Montana Del Oro, one of the nicer areas alone the coast also. You can find more than enough to see in an afternoon.

I live a half hour north of Pismo Beach. Great pier and beach. Morro Bay is northwest about 20 - 30 minutes with a lot of things to see and do. You will enjoy your stay. The weather is getting nice.
