Did those who pointed it out actually know that, or where they part of the ongoing UHH guessing game?
We sometimes take what we read as fact, even though there is nothing to back it up. Then if it gets repeated in enough threads ... it's gospel.

Just wondering ...

It would cost more per unit because fewer units can be sold. It doesn't cost more if produced in the same quantity.

That's a good logical guess!

Panasonic actually charge for better firmware for video,
It's Video which helps drive things like fast accurate autofocus and better stabilization. Lens designs with constant aperture across the zoom range. fast lenses...

Not in a contemporary camera, they all seem to have video capabilities.., but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I recently watched a tutorial on the new Olympus EM5 MkIII, a camera I have been thinking about. The way it was explained is that when this camera is in "video" mode, a completely unique set of settings comes into play. e.i. making settings in this mode did not affect settings in any other mode. I did not know that as I seldom shoot videos. This would kind of suggest that you actually have Two cameras in One. Who knows I might try my hand at video in the future?

Yes, and you are going to hate the answer......The view camera

Nope. You can attach any recording medium to the back of a view camera, including a digital camera with video ability. A so-called “view camera” isn’t actually a camera. It’s a big verrrrry versatile accessory bellows. It can be fitted to a Sony or fitted to a rollfilm holder or fitted to a Polaroid etc etc.

A camera that couldn't shoot video would not sell very well. The ability to video doesn't detract from the performance of the camera, so if you don't want to use it, don't.

You seem to be reading different reviews from those I've seen of the recent DSLR and MILC releases. This similar question (from Feb 2021 with 157 replies) probably hashes out all the recent thinking: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-687455-1.html

My C330 didn’t do videos either.

I had a C330 back in the seventies when I was at R.I.T. getting my BFA in Photography. A great twin-lens reflex medium format camera which produced great quality film shots. We had separate video cameras back then as the mechanics of how cameras shot movie film vs still roll film could not be combined in one small package. Today with digital sensors it is fairly easy to do both in the same camera. Cheers

I think I've used the video on my camera four times (once on purpose and three times pushing the wrong button); Wednesday I photographed my grandson riding his scooter; he asked me if my camera took video; it was my first dslr and took only stills. Next Wednesday I'm taking my camera which shoots video (and he was happy when I told him).

There are two companies that come to mind. Leica and Hasselblad make cameras specific to still photography.

Would I be wrong in thinking that videos are loads of stills viewed quckly?

All my cameras can do video. They would only be focused more toward video if I was focused more toward video. It's in the mind, not the camera.

Repurpose the video button to do something else. Then you have a camera that only shoots stills.

I just wish I could buy a new car that didn't include AM radio. After all, I never listen to AM, so why did I have to pay for it.
