How do you store your memory cards?

Mike, I have them stored someplace on my desk. If not in my camera I usually have to hunt for it. I take no special precautions. I bet my SD regiment will horrify some here on UHH.

Why stop at an Altoid box? There are innumerable testaments - here and elsewhere - to the indestructibility of SD cards, including weathering washing machine trips with aplomb. So I let mine hang out in my trusted Maytag .

Mine live in their little plastic boxes they came in inside my camera bags. I purchased some that don't have those plastic boxes, and those are wrapped individually in plastic wrap, then stored in plastic bags. I have a friend who doesn't have a computer, but shoots digitally. She keeps everything stored on her memory cards, which are numbered and indexed. I found her a little plastic box in the craft section of Walmart with dividers in it (similar to the old slide boxes). I made sure the cards would fit with the top closed. It's 5 years later and she still uses it.

Mike - I format my cards after they've been copied to my desktop, backed up to 2 external USB hard drives and the cloud.

I use a small (4.5x8.5x2 inches)hard plastic cigar travel case - crush proof (within reason) and waterproof with a gasket all around the lid. Foam lined with a humidifier which I removed for card storage. These can be had inexpensively from any Cigar supplier, often free if you use cigars. Nice thing is for home storage they are proof against nearly mischance but a house fire. Edit. Spare, fresh cards are in camera bags - a little soft case in one, an aluminum hard case in another.

I use a box and back-up on other devices or other options and use the cards for shooting.

I don't use memory cards for long term storage Mike. I have 4 CF cards and 4 SD cards for my D800. One of each cards are in the camera slots and the others are in their plastic cases in a pouch which is in my camera bag for use when and/or if needed. After I have downloaded the raw files to a 4TB hard drive in my PC, I then back them up onto a 4TB external drive, and then import the raw files from the camera into Lightroom on another 4TB hard drive. After I verify my files are all where they are supposed to be on those three drives, I then reformat the cards that are in the camera for future use. Been doing that since I have had the D800.

95% of my memory cards are in cameras.

I store mine in my cameras, formatted and ready to use. Spares are stored in their original cases, if needed.

I generally only use the ones I keep in my several cameras, 32 & 64 GB Sandisk Extreme yadda yadda SD cards. I have a few older or extra ones I keep in their original plastic holders on chains so I can find them in my camera bags if needed. And semi-retired ones in medicine bottles or film cans. I upload my shots usually daily to my PC and do not use the SD cards for archiving or long term storage. Let's see, I have four DSLRs, one with two SD slots, two PnS, each with a card. So I am using 7 cards at any time and there are say 4 or 5 extra ones. So no system to storing the cards, the storage is all on my PC and numerous external drives.

I have several zippered small cases with sleeves that perfectly fit SD cards and put a little note in side each compartment with details. I do make sure I have saved only images I want by vigorously deleting before I save. Then I, as others have, external hard drives where I store to back up ones I want to keep. I have a ledger that gives a little more detail about what is in the folder. I do not fully understand the cloud so don't use what I don't have confidence in in terms of hacking etc.

I never archive. All stored cards are blank, usually in their OEM cases.

Cards are probably the worst way to store your images. I use expensive cards so it just isn’t economic for me to do so. I have 2 cards in my camera and that’s more than I need. Back up are on cd.
