When purchasing brand name camera equipment from Amazon, it is important to look at who the seller is before your purchase. The seller is always listed. If the seller is Amazon itself, you can be assured it is a USA warranted item. If the seller is a third party, it is often grey market.

My approach toward Amazon: if there is no seller information clearly posted, I just do not purchase the item. Period.

If the camera is not an actual D5600, with a little research it shouldn't be too difficult to find out exactly what camera you have in your hands. Perhaps a retooled D3400 or some other less expensive camera.

The price I paid at Amazon was very close to that of the local authorized dealer and Best Buy (probably not an authorized dealer). For that price and convenience, I bought two lenses and received a macro lens, filters, a 32 gig card, a tulip hood, a really flimsy card reader and some other stuff. My local vendor had included a bag, 64 gig card, and three filters.

If you bought it 'through' Amazon and not 'from' Amazon, that was noted on their WebSite. PixelStan advised you in you first post to order from B&H. You didn't, so you kind of dug yourself a hole.

However, even though you didn't buy directly from Amazon, their customer service department may be able to intercede with the vendor on your behalf. Most of those vendors don't want to jeopardize their spot on the Amazon website.

If the actual vendor happened to be "Abe's of Maine", you are probably SOL.

New means never sold... A never sold grey market camera implies that it is new...
If the seller indicated that it has a USA warranty and the manufacturer will not honor the warranty contact your credit card company.

Please, forgive this long note but I’ve tried to anticipate your questions.
After waiting nearly ten weeks for a local “authorized” retailer to deliver the Nikon D5600 camera and two lenses I ordered, because my beginning photography class was starting, I bought online from the biggest general retailer. You know who I mean. It was not advertised as a used or refurbished camera; I contracted for a new camera. I’ve had it for 32 days. It was a credit card purchase.

When comparing the Nikon D5600 I received with those shown in online tutorials, I noticed some differences in the camera bodies and menus. Concerned about whether this Nikon D5600 is authentic, I consulted Nikon’s website and Nikon’s Customer Service directly. The website lists what I should have received with a new camera. Noticeably, I didn’t get a Warranty card (needed for registration with Nikon), the Quick Guide or CDRom (with the owner’s manual). Nikon’s Technical Service rep told me that Nikon hasn’t changed the body since its introduction in 2016 and that Nikon won’t warrantee or repair cameras that weren’t manufactured for use in the USA! The rep wondered whether it might be a “grey market” camera! Nikon can’t give me a clear answer about its authenticity without inspecting it.

The online seller contracted with a “third party seller” who refused my request to return the camera. My local seller now has the camera it ordered for me. How do you think I should proceed?
Please, forgive this long note but I’ve tried to a... (show quote)

Send it back as Nikon won't touch it if needs repairs. It may never break, but if it does, it's a paper weight. IMO why would anyone buy a grey market Nikon at any price. Forget the warranty, it turns worthless if it needs repairs later down the road. What if you drop it? I think Nikon lost a lot of future customers with their business model.

I believe it was the original post where the OP said he had it over 30 days and dealer would not accept return.

If the screen fully articulates it is a D5xxx. It is also a touch screen.

If you want to buy a camera buy your camera from Adorama or B&H (There are a few others a well). If you do this you will not have any problems. In the rare event your camera is DOA the folks at Adorama or B&H will take care of you. Forget Amazon and forget Abe's of Maine

Amazon takes care of you. But you have to follow their policies. And read camera Ads vety carefully.

Amazon is great if you order "From" Amazon. You just click on return, check off reason, and choose to print a label or use QR code. You can than choose to drop it off or have them pick it up.

You don't want to buy from a third party vendor 'through' Amazon like the OP apparently did.

Since B&H went to using FedEx all my photo gear comes from Amazon. Everything from my Nikkor DX 35mm F/1.8 to the 800mm came from Amazon.

Thanks, for your vote of confidence in my camera choice. As a beginner, I’m comfortable with its weight and the features I expected. The photos I’ve taken with it have generated better results than I had with my Fujifilm F660 EXR. I intend to return it (with help from my credit card company) and re-order from an authorized dealer. Our UHH colleagues have been very helpful with suggestions that will help us resolve this issue. One provided the website that lists authorized dealers. I’ll be contacting those near me as soon as this matter is resolved.

Thanks, for your response and encouragement. Checking my serial number with the first digit being an 8, supports my belief that seller wasn’t forthcoming. Hopefully, my credit card company will convince him to accept the camera back.

Thanks! I’ve learned my lesson. It was a “third party seller” at Amazon.
