This guy is a 3 time Grammy winner who put up $7M of his own money to produce the show. Here's an excerpt from CBS Sports:

The Weeknd was announced as the halftime entertainer for Super Bowl LV long before we knew which team's play would sandwich his performance and since then, he has been getting ready to perform for the limited crowd that will be at the game. To make sure it was "what he envisioned" he spent $7 million of his own money to make the halftime show "cinematic."

At CBS Sports we break down the teams set to play in the big game, so why not break down the halftime performer as well.

He's had countless No. 1 songs, chart-topping albums, nominations in many categories and was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2016 for "Earned It" from the Fifty Shades of Grey: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Turned it off after 1-1/2 minutes, since it was obvious it would be as boring as the game

The half-time show was a huge disappointment to me. The theme of the show was confusing. I did not understand why all those back-up people had what looked like jocks on their faces.
Over all, the commercials were better in the past. The four quarter horses were given a big build-up but at show time were a let-down.
I truly felt the opening ceremony of America the Beautiful & The National Anthem came close to being a mockery.
I believe many high school/college bands would consider it a tremendous honor to play either/both and many singers would honor the U.S. with the traditional singing of both.
The half-time show was a huge disappointment to me... (show quote)

Thank you for your comments about the America the Beautiful and the National Anthem sounding as mockery. I feel exactly the same way and it predisposed me to start watching the game in a irritated state of mind. worst pre-game and worst 1/2 time "show???"

That guy should give it up and get a legitimate job.

But he is to be commended for one thing. If he has any talent at all he did an excellent job of hiding it from everyone.

I wonder how much CBS paid him to offset his $7 mill outlay?

Where did he get the seven million bucks to stage that atrocity. Certainly no one in his/her/its right mind would pay to listen to this creep and his lousy songs (or noise or whatever it is).

Well, even though he’s not to our taste he’s a very successful performer/producer and has won a number of Grammy’s. Go figure🥴

I believe some of these comments are as difficult to understand as the half time show. Many sports promoters seem to doubt that the game itself will not entertain so they try other means to do so. Especially the NBA. The only ad that I enjoyed was the low keyed Cheeto commercial. At least my over
engaged brain got it. The game however was great.
