stimulus check

The previous stimulus payment was direct deposited to my bank account. This second SP was mailed to me in the form of a Debit card. Between times, nothing on my end changed; didn't move, same bank and account, no changes in having filed taxes, nothing. No problem with the Debit card (though I could easily have tossed it since at first glance the mailing looked like other junk mail that gets mailed to me), but it seemed silly --and nowhere near as cost effective as the direct deposit would've been-- and rather than bother with the accounting (hmm, charged $39.48 for gas, $297.13 on that quick stop I made at the booze store, $13.95 for cat food [mmmm! yum!], I deposited the total in my bank account.

All very interesting. Last was simultaneous deposit of both ours into our checking account. Haven’t received a tax refund in over 30 years. My wife got a physical check in the mail last week, me nothing. I would love to have someone explain their system.

If you filed your income tax electronically for 2020, it will be more likely that you will or already have received the stimulus funds (probably in your checking account).

My experience is much the same as the Ops! The IRS' "Get Payment Tool" says that "Payment #2 Status is not available" and it never seems to change (I've been watching it daily for quite some time now). It also states that they don't have enough information or I am not eligible, while neither make any sense at all and we had no issues with distribution of the first incentive. My wife and I filed our taxes jointly last year and yet she got her 2nd check and I didn't, which is also strange in that it should be just one check for $1200.00 if filing jointly, while we just got one check with her name on it for $600.00. How is that possible if they are using our tax returns to make the distributions? The worse part is that there is no way to find out what information they might need or correct the situation in any way, as they won't accept phone calls or e-mails and there is nothing in their "Frequently Asked Questions" about this either.

The only option appears to be to try to use it as a tax credit on my income taxes for last year, using their "Rebate Recovery Credit Worksheet." So, I called the IRS tax line and spoke with someone about this and was told that at this point I might as well try that route, but again offered no way to find out what might be the problem with the original distribution. Therefore, I will submit my taxes with an attempt to use the $600.00 as a tax credit, but I'd sure rather have the check or deposit up front and I'd really like to fix whatever is wrong prior to any possible, further distributions, but that appears to be impossible! We are basically at their mercy on this and have no way to hold them accountable either. I guess it doesn't really surprise me, as it seems like everything the government gets it's hands into gets screwed up somehow! Good luck and good shooting to all.

The 2020 Form 1040 has 2 line items that ask if you received each check. If you say "no" to either one it will be credited on you tax return.

Hopefully, the return you file now to get the tax credit (and ultimate stimulus amounts) will include direct deposit information for any future stimulus/recovery checks. I think that is the most efficient way of getting the government agencies in sync with your account. Good luck.

My situation is identical! Gov't is not helpful at all, but you better not owe them money!

Look at it this way: the stimulus payment paid for the car repair. Without it you’d be out the money.
