Next time, set the ISO at 100 and play with the f stop until you get moon details.

Try looking at the histogram... Looks way overexposed

YES, the last time I shot the moon my settings were: ISO 100, f8, 1/500.

Good that you are expanding your photo horizons. I'd suggest a bit less ISO, a bit more f-stop, and reasonable shutter speed. The moon is brighter than one might imagine. Some good suggestions have been offered in previous posts.

Now that Jupiter/Saturn set w/ the sun I have turnd the Sony A6300 + 200-600 telly to the moon, sorta "point & shoot"!
Hopefully I can attach foto to this reply? This is the jpg, save by DigiKam as .png file, @600mm (900mm focal length w/1.5 crop factor) f 6.3, 1/500 ",ISO 100. It was handheld auto focus w/ lens & camera stabilizers On.

2020-1129 full moon tonight. Handheld at 3000mm with the Nikon P1000. Hardest part was getting the moon to stay in the frame. I took a bunch of photos just to get this keeper. No cropping was done but did a little tweaking in photoshop (contrast etc.) (camera settings: auto mode, 1/500, f8, ISO 100).
