Whenever I need to purchase a laptop for photo processing (I'm working on my third one!) I go to my local computer store (not a big box store) and explain my needs. The staff at my local store (Kaplan Computers, Manchester CT) are very knowledgeable and helpful. After I explain my needs and answer a few questions (no, I'm not a gamer), they will suggest a number of laptops that will more than meet my needs at a variety of prices. The nice thing about my local store is that all the workers are on salary and none of them receive a commission. They are there to help me find the best machine for my needs. I suggest you find a similar store in your area. BTW, I do not work for Kaplan Computers, I am merely an extremely satisfied customer.

I'm back to searching for a Laptop PC (not Mac) for photo use. I ordered a MSI Creator series from XOTIC PC - and the mousepad was dead on arrival. The fan was also very loud. It is being returned.

Any recommendations? I'm running Capture One and Affinity Photo with large (40M) files, and my existing (old) Lenovo Think Pad gets bogged down.

I've looked at the Dell XPS 15, but concerned that the graphics card is not powerful enough.

Thanks...

Don't put too much emphasis on a graphic card. For photo editing all, you need is the ability to output the appropriate resolution via HDMI or display port to a suitable monitor. Gaming with high frame rates and 3D rendering are a different matter, but editing photos is not very demanding. Spend the $ on memory and fast storage.

While looking, checkmout Lenovo ThinkPad X series. Love the rggedness and jeyboard. Watch for model closeouts in january. I found a "last years" model with a big savings.
