I don't have lightroom or do I see a need for it. I watched Steve Perry's lightroom workshop and I still don't see the need. Lightroom just looks like a complicated photo naming software to me.

The cataloguing is only a small portion of what you can do. It can do most common edits you would do in post.

The circa 1981 Canon FD 200mm f/4 macro was my #1 used lens for keepers (mounted to a Sony a7II). Merging all the extended configurations, last year's #1 lens was the second most frequent in 2019, the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM (mounted to an EOS 5DIII).

12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X-Vario

That lens on Micro 4/3 is similar in purpose to a 24-70mm f/2.8 on full frame or an 18-55mm on APS-C. I have used this field of view range as my standard lens for decades.

My second most frequently used lens is the 30mm f/2.8 Lumix Macro lens, because I do lots of copy work. It reminds me of my 55mm f/3.5 and f/2.8 Micro Nikkors from my film days.

Along with D300, D500, and D810, regular use depends on objective(s) and/or destination.

Nikkor AF-S 200-500mm, F5.6: Birds and almost everything else. I carry this lens handheld 85% of the time.
Otherwise;
Micro Nikkor 200mm, F4: The best bug lens ever.
Micro Nikkor 105mm, F2.8: General close-up/macro.
AF Nikkor 20mm, F2.8: Landscapes and when nothing else will do. (I've used this lens for some thirty years.)
Tokina 11-20 mm: Nights and night skies w/appropriate supports and filters.

I find Affinity's suite of editors ideal for my needs,

Beside my 600mmF:4 G VR I used my Sigma 800mmF:5.6 AF for 15 years until I got the 600.

I would have to say it was my Nikon 24-120 f4 on the front of my D750. I think this year it will probably be my Nikon 24-70 f4 S mounted on either my z5 or the z6ii I am planning on purchasing.

No favorite lens since March 12th of last year. That was my last high school game on the schedule. If I was shooting. Soccer Nikon 200-500 5.6 vr, second camera 70-200 2.8. Same on football. Baseball varsity field 200-500 second lens 80-400 4.5 vr. Softball favorite lens is Nikon 80-400 4.5-5.6 vr. and 70-200 2.8.

Good topic.

Good question.., and the realization startled, and surprised, me. I'm a dedicated Micro 4/3s user and own Olympus cameras but both Oly and Lumix lenses. But the one lens that I found myself using more than others, and this may be just laziness, was the 14 - 42mm pancake kit lens. I found that several of the images I liked best were shot with that lens. Even though I have an EM1 III, it's that lens and my EM10 III, that's with me all the time. That combo can be employed at a moments notice to catch whatever unexpected scenes that show up in my wanderings. The second one, mounted on a separate body, is the Lumix/Leica 12 - 60mm. These guys have captured the most pleasing images in the past year (2020). That being said; we'll see about this new year.., maybe I'll pick a new "go-to" lens for 2021?

I don't need to do any research; without a doubt i used my 18-55 kit lens the most during 2020. It will probably be the same for 2021 as I primarily shoot landscapes. I also use my 70-300 and 28-75 in landscape photography, but I overwhelmingly use the 18-55.

I am curious whether the Nikon 24-120mm is a good lens. I had an older version with variable aperture and it was sub-par at best. I am thinking about buying that or the 28-300 for use with a D750. Both seem a little slow. I have a 35-70 f2,8, a 105 f2.8 macro and a 80-209 f2.8. Great lenses but heavy. Most of the pictures that I take are of people.
