I have a copy of Luminar 4 and find it quite useful when processing landscapes and people, although its not my editor of choice.

I have watched several in depth comparisons between the two versions and it seems to me that AI has many of the same features mostly re-arranged and renamed with a few extra functions. Perhaps I'm some what biased not having experience with the AI program.

My question is to the Luminar 4 users that upgraded to AI, is it worth it?

Joe, When I bought 4 a few months ago it included AI when available. Your estimate is accurate in that things are similar but affects of editing are quite the same. I just got AI and haven't learned its ins and outs yet but at this point the AI seems quite similar to 4. You can down load a manual for AI, that may be something to read first before you jump.

I think the main difference claimed between the two is that AI should run smoother and faster. AI will be the Luminar platform going forward. Future upgrades and enhancements will probably not be available to Luminar 4 users.
I got AI last week and am finding it very useful and intuitive. I was able to get great results after just playing around with it for 10 minutes. I have no previous experience with Luminar.

I too have both. AI is the superior application by some distance. Use its AI features or/and edit normally, the choice is yours. AI Catalogue is hugely faster that in L4. Also AI has some additional features that I use - namely composition - saves me using DXO to straighten out my verticals for RE work. It's blisteringly fast on my new MacBook Pro AND works on my slow but newish iMac where L4 really struggled. It's like L4 on steroids.

I have both 4 & AI, and also 3. I am finding that I am going back to 4 a lot of times for touchups. Just my opinion on the results of how I process.

I find for my use Luminar 4 is all I need.

I agree, new engine will provide for better and newer features. I have seen some discussion on Luminar Insider site. I have been both a L4 and L AI user. I just wish they would not change name of tools for no reason. AI did run faster on my old computer, new computer with SSD runs fast with both.

Luminar 4 and Luminar AI are almost the same. Same things, different names. A curious fact is that it does not have the default histogram. Try to find it and when you do, try to have a magnifying glass handy. I think that companies made no changes to their software this year. I am a Capture One 20 user and there were no changes for Capture One 21. PS and LR made new additions

You can turn histogram on via view menu. It needs a shortcut key

I am perfectly satisfied with Luminar 4. I just spent the money I saved for it on a Sous vide unit

I tried replacing the sky on a couple of my images that Luminar 4 couldn't differentiate from the rest of the image but Luminar AI had no problem with it.

I have both Luminar 4 and Luminar AI. I am disappointed in AI in that the ads show dramatic results by taking a bland image and turning it into a dramatic image with a single keystroke. My experience with the provided presets is that the results are subtle changes rather than dramatic changes as seen in the advertisements. Perhaps these changes are only available with presets available at an additional cost. But at this point, I'm disappointed with AI and tend to continue to use Luminar 4.

If you have Adobe Cloud - from Lightroom, edit in PhotoShop. Their Sky Replace feature is awesome and better.
