This is a bit of a tangent. Mac or Windows, either one, if you stay on the old version of the OS you are significantly increasing your risk of malware if you are connected to the internet. Just a word to the wise.

Just pulled this off the inter net (gotta be true, eh?) but it is worth considering if you have an old program

"It's September 2020 and my readers report that you can still use Microsoft's free upgrade tools to install Windows 10 on an old PC running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. No product key is required, and the digital license says you're activated and ready to go.Sep 28, 2020"

I dumped Aperture about a year after Apple discontinued development. (About six years ago). No use riding on the back of an Albatros. One of the strong points of Aperture was its catalog management and nondestructive editing especially if you shoot RAW.

At the time I made the transition to Adobe, there was a conversion utility that grabbed your Aperture library and imported it into Lightroom along with a bit of the file metadata but not your edits. So you populated Lightroom with unedited RAW files.

I ended up with about 20000 images requiring re-edit that now with COVID lockdown, I am able to get at.

Take this into consideration if you use RAW. If you do and are happy with all of the work you have put into your edits in Aperture, export and save high quality jpg versions for inclusion to whatever new program you are transitioning to. These would be your final keepers unless you want to go through the RAW Edit process again in your new software. Keep your original RAW files in case you ever want to improve the edit. Storage is cheap and so is the subscription to Adobe if you are using any kind of decent photography gear and want to keep up with ever improving technology

Despite Windows 7 being one of Microsoft's best efforts, and Windows 8/8.1 being rather awful, Microsoft knows that getting everyone on Win10 is the right thing to do. Supporting ancient operating systems is just not practical at some point. It gets to where you're patching the security patches that patched the security patches! That can't be safe.

One of the things I have always appreciated about Apple, and that probably influenced Microsoft in their decision to make Win10 a free upgrade, is that MacOS X/MacOS became a free annual upgrade in late 2013, just to encourage users to upgrade so Apple could more rapidly phase out support for older systems. With millions of users, supporting MacOS 10.6 from 2009 would be absurd and dangerous now. It's to their advantage to get as many folks as possible on the newest two OS versions.

I am requesting your help concerning Apple’s discontinued Aperture Photo Editing SW. True it is available on older OS versions (HS & Mojave) but still works best on HS.
Since replacing my iMac, I have encountered numerous barriers to using Aperture efficiently...I would happily give up it's use for an alternative.
The features in Aperture that are important to me, being able to view up to 4 raw images, side by side, and zoom in and out on each checking for the sharpest. Additionally, you can rate 1-5 on the fly, & the rating remains with the file. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER APP THAT OFFERS THESE 2 FEATUREST PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP. Please, only respond if you know of something, not you have heard it works, or it could work. Too many companies have said yes, but when requested to show me, tech support was unable to do so.

Thanks in advance for your help. Healthy and Happy Holidays to you all...

I still use Aperture and love the program. But I stay in High Sahara. Still works great but I won't go pass this
