Recently when I tried to download photos on Picasa, the Import From box doesn't list anything I can import from. My camera isn't listed, nor anything else I can click on to start the import process. Does anyone know how to add a program to the Import From box? Thanks.

If you use Win 10, you can make Picasa your designated app for photo files. Are you using a card reader or connecting camera to computer?

Thanks Mark for reminding me about using a card reader. I think that might be the problem. I always have used a card reader, but yesterday, for some reason, just connected to the camera. I will try it again.

In Picasa, click on "Import" and then click on the arrow. It should list your USB port which contains the memory card.
Feel free to PM me for assistance. I'm not an expert, but I'm not a novice either.

Good luck,
Mark

But shouldn't you be able to connect directly to your camera and download into Picasa? When I did that, nothing showed up under "Import."

When you connect to the "camera" you are really connecting to the memory card in the camera. The camera does not contain the photos, the card does. When you click the arrow does the USB port show up? That's "the camera". I always use a reader to import images. BTW: you can import photos using Windows Explorer. It's the same as how Picasa does it, but without the Picasa App.

I have been trying with a couple different card readers, and all that show up uner "Import" are three printers and a scanner, none of which allow me to download photos. If I remember right, there used to be a letter that would show up which allowed me to download. Maybe a "c". I do get "folder," but I don't know what to do with that.

Correct. It should show a letter - name of the USB port. Why not use windows explorer to import?

Been trying for an hour, but no luck. Windows Explorer on Windows 10 is called File Explorer. Have clicked on photos and try to import, but it says something went wrong. It asks if if the device is turned on and that there are photos or videos on it. Get the same question when connected to the camera or the card reader. Never really had this problem before. I wish I knew how to get that "c" back under import. Thanks for all your help.

You can accomplish the import by clicking on File (In Picasa)/Add file to Picasa/locate the USB Drive (Memory card) then proceed. It is the same as the method you are attempting. I did know about Explorer being File Explorer - they are the same. In Windows7 it was termed, "My Computer"

Good luck,
Mark

I'm suspecting the USB port is not connecting. It should show up. Try the following:
1. disconnect the the reader
2. shut off the computer
3. Restart the computer.
4. After booting completes, reconnect the reader and see if the drive letter shows up.

This is a simple way to coy your photos from your camera to the computer, you just create a 'new folder' named it, and then connect your camera to the computer and open the photo file, then you can just copy/drag the photos to the newly created folder on your computer, from that point, you can open/edit whatever you what to with any photo software you have! I do this with W-7 and now W-10.
