Picasa duplicates.

Does anyone know why Picasa will duplicate my photos? Is there a setting I'm missing?. It creates an extension as it duplicates. As an example it adds an extension .01 then .02 and so on.

So you wind up with files named name.jpg.01?

No, it keeps the original file number and adds an extension of .01 and .02. and so on. I wind up with multiple files of the same photo. I've been formatting my sd card lately before shooting so it cannot read my older files when downloading. It works, but I think that's not how it should be. I have the box checked for exclude duplicates. It creates a major "housekeeping" chore to weed out duplicates.

Sorry, last I knew extensions were tacked onto the end of a file.

.jpeg , .pdf , .doc , etc. are extensions.

Have you checked the "Exclude Duplicates" box before starting to import files?

You have hit on the very reason why I dumped Picassa. I did not want some program taking over my hard drive. I would delete the duplicate files and *poof* they miraculously reappeared the next time I opened my computer. I received a copy of Photoshop Elements 9 with my scanner and began using it. I've since upgraded to 14 and have never used the Organizer. I use my own system for downloading photos and I never have to worry about duplicates. If I every decide to go with another post processing program, I don't have to worry about locating my files.
