Didja have to apply for that or should I just wait for it to come in the mail??
In my car, I always keep my camera and bag on the floor behind the driver's seat. That way it can't fall any further.
Time to go buy some brown pants. :-)
Great story - things are definitely not built like they used to be.
So far so good. If it happens to me I hope I have your luck.
In flight training I learned to stow EVERYTHING because turbulence turns objects into... at least problems, sometimes missiles. So I got in the habit of never leaving a camera bag or anything else loose on car seats. Always on the floor in the back seat, or in the “way back” against the bulkhead / seat back. It takes a few seconds but can save $$$.

The real explanation is you are near the antipod and things fall up.
Three or four years ago I was at a U of E basketball game and had my camera hanging around my neck. I was using a Nikon 18-200 lens. When someone was leaving the narrow isle, I had to stand up suddenly and the lens hit the back of the seat in front of me. The lens broke in half, but I was able to put it back together. Unfortunately, it didn't work and I had to send it to a repair shop in Louisville, Ky. It took several weeks to get back from the shop, but it worked perfectly. I always had a problem with that lens as it would slide out while around my neck. The repairman said that is a problem with that lens and he couldn't fix it. It still slides out to it's longest extension while hanging around my neck.
I schedule my expensive cameras and lenses on my homeowners insurance. While ordinarily home owners insurance does not covers a dropped or lost camera or lens it does if it is a scheduled item. Drop your camera in the water sometime and if it is scheduled it you will have a covered loss!

I had a similar experience with a Tokina 11-17. The fall was hard enough that the CPL filter was shattered. It seemed like the lens was unharmed and was giving me sharp photos the rest of my trip. Only later did I realize that it was performing well because I was shooting all manual focus. First time I set things up for autofocus, it wasn’t happening.
I am am still looking for defects in the photos I have taken with the lens since I dropped it and have not detected any issues yet but I may still send it to Fujifilm for a checkup early next year.

Good advice Larry. I have listed most of my photographic equipment on my insurance.

Gemstones are one of my other hobbies. I saw a feature once about Lightning Ridge. Apparently it's so hot there a lot of the residents live underground. Some of the subterranean dwellings were quite nice.
Actually that might be Coober-Pedy, the opal capital of the world and quite hot.
You are correct flip, many residents of Coober Pedy live in underground dwellings. There is also an underground hotel and several underground motels.
The airport is also underground ......... just joking!!!

While driving home from a shoot a deer ran across the road right in front of me. My camera bag was on the rear seat. I braked hard and the bag slid off the seat and fell to the floor. It isn't a real camera bag, I use a gym bag which is not as well padded. Fortunately all ended well, I missed the deer and no camera items broke.
Take that giant step, and get a real camera bag. Sooner or later that gym bag is gonna get you. I'm going to guess your gear is worth a lot more than the cost of a good quality well-padded bag.
