They'll get you anywhere...
I finally got my car paid off, then i decided to get extended warranty. After 6 months i cancelled it, i wanted to enjoy the car for a change without making more monthly payments.
If you regularly take care of your car(s) there isn’t much of a problem. Keep some money in the bank for contingencies. I’m not fond of spending money on an extended warranty. If the thing wasn’t built properly in the first place why don’t we get a 20 year warranty when we buy it.
These companies have been calling us for months about a car we sold even longer ago. Often, the call begins with "This is your last chance to..." Oh, if it were only so! They even call on a VOIP line that I have no idea how they got that number. AGAAAAH!
I got a call from a woman telling me my motor vehicle warranty is almost up. I asked her which one? She rambled on. I asked again which one? A brief silence, then more blather. I interrupted her one more time to ask is it the Harley Davidson?.....Click!

When I get a phone call from a number that is ID’d by my phone, I don’t pick up. Telemarking comes across as Spam. If it is important, they’ll leave a voice message. I don’t which to be annoyed when I’m making myself a sandwich.
If you take your cell phone everywhere, yes, they can reach you everywhere. Because of their obviously shady tactics I will never, ever buy their product. Blocking their phone numbers doesn't help much because they use different phone numbers every time they call.
Only buy a warranty from the company that made the car, Don't buy a warranty from any one else, it a rip off.

If I get a call from a number I don't recognize (or even from "United States" or "Alabama") I don't answer. I rarely get a voice message. Occasionally I'm waiting for a call from my doctor or from the vet. Those calls can come from a wide range of numbers so I don't have all of them in my contact list. If I'm waiting for an important call I'll pick up. If it's spam I can block that number in my iPhone, but again, the spam calls have a lot of numbers so blocking one of them does little good. The pool service company always calls from a phone number in Arizona (I'm in CT) since that's where their home office is located although they will be coming from someplace local. And my iPhone area code is MA since that's where I moved from so other people who don't know my number could easily think my call is spam.
The next problem is the people who don't pick up and let it go to voicemail, but their mailbox is full and can't take new calls. No way to contact them.
I have never bought an extended warranty. I maintain my car with regular oil changes and checkups. My cars and trucks generally last 10-15 years. Only had one car that I had mechanical problems with that I had to get rid of after 3 years, and that was a European model. I bought American cars and trucks until 2005 when I got a Prius. That lasted 12 years and worked just fine. The only reason I got a new one was that I was getting older and the new models had more safety features.
