if you do mostly low light shooting then f 1.4 is necessary. i am only guessing but, f4.5 - f11 would give better results, for 10am to 6pm landscapes.

I had read somewhere about the beneficial aspects of using a 50mm lens for landscape photography. Recently, I tried my old Nikon FX 50/1.4D lens on a Nikon D850 to take a photo out of my bedroom window of an approaching storm. I was impressed with the results.

Doing some further reading, I learned that the SIGMA Art 50mm F/1.4 DG HSM is even a more superior lens to my old Nikon FX 50/1.4D lens. So, I’m tempted to get one to replace the old lens.

Has anyone had any experience with the SIGMA Art 50mm F/1.4 DG HSM lens, and is trading up worth it?

Thank you for your comments. Val

This picture was taken hand-held at F/11 with the same "old" 50mm F/1.4D that you already own. The camera was a Nikon D810. Download it and zoom in on the white dots near the center of the picture. Sheep. Do you really need more resolution than this for landscapes and can you get it for a reasonable price? Only you can decide. Maybe you should rent any other lens you want to consider and do a comparison.
