After much research, I chose C1 for raw editing several years ago, and I am very happy with it. I shoot Sony, so I started with the free express version and now use the Pro version for Sony, which is less expensive than the all-brand version. There are many webinars and tutorials online, and I enjoy using it.

They also have a C1 for Fuji, which has gotten good reviews. I personally don't need any other editing software, but I know that many photographers also use either Affinity or PS for finishing touches.

I have used CAPTURE 1 for years...as a TETHERED PROCESSOR for RAW images. With the D800 I shoot directly to the screen and can make adjustments on exposure, color, detail, sharpness color balance and the Most important thing is I have a real time Exact view of the image.

Rather than shooting and relying on the screen on the camera I see a full sized image and can zoom into any part of that image to check focus, etc.

CAPTURE 1 creates a separate folder for each shoot, which I can label when it is created, and I can then transfer the entire folder or the CAPTURE folder (within the master folder) that contains RAW FILES to my work computer for processing in BRIDGE (I HATE LIGHTROOM). SAVE OUT THE FILES as jpegs or Tiffs or PSD files and then work on those in Photoshop. Saving as JPEGs saves a lot of space (PSD saved files can create a Huge folder) and are just as good as final PSD files.

THIS IMAGE WAS SHOT USING CAPTURE 1 and then final crop/processing was done with BRIDGE and PHOTOSHOP.

CAPTURE 1 and the new version can be used as image processing and retouching but I have used Photoshop so long that I prefer using that.

I've been in the business for over 35 yrs and I adopted digital photography in 2003 for capture to commercial print. All of my colleagues use C1 exclusively for capture and raw processing. This also goes for in-house studios like Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Restoration Hardware, Bass Proshop /Cabelas, Harry and David, Sur la Table, Eddie Bauer and the list goes on. If you have large volumes of photos to edit and catalog in a database, this is your go-to software. It's very powerful for this purpose and is intuitive and very direct to use. If you want to paste wings on pigs, you of course you use photoshop. Lightroom is fine, but I would never have time to sleep if I had to use it for processing in a commercial environment. It strikes me that a lot of people on this form say they tried it but can't really explain the interface. For example; it has virtually the same catalog system available as LR. I use their session-based system because it fits my workflow. In conclusion, C1 should never be compared to photoshop. It was never intended to have the same purpose.

While I have Capture 1 for remote control of my Nikon D750, does anyone know a way to remotely turn on the camera?

Capture i is a color editor with catalán, snd good editing features. It’s non destructive and integrates with a number of programs helicon, Topaz as well as presets made by very talented photos. I used Creative cloud and my impression LR classic and mobile and PS are focused on professional image maker’s but capture 1 is capable but it’s focus is on color

I process all of my images with Capture. I no longer use Photoshop. If I need to blend any images together I use the live brushes in Affinity Photo.

OK I am impressed with all the favorable reviews. However, I have been trying for days to use a heal layer to fix some skin imperfections on a baby portrait. I get the circle with the arrow, and "spot" showing the area to be healed, but it never gets healed! I have repeatedly watched the C1 tutorial videos plus other videos, and have tried to ensure that I was following the correct steps. Apparently, to me, either I am doing something wrong, or the program isn't performing as intended. I have done a clone layer to the same photo, need to practice to perfect my work, but I got it done. I will appreciate any and all advice and/or suggestions. Thanks

Can you dhow us your settings?
Also There is a skin tone adjustment in the advanced color wheel . There is a box for skin tone and put sample tool there and then use the skin color. I’m on a phone right now so I can’t show you the screenshot but it’s obvious

Settings? I have no idea what you are talking about. I add a healing layer, right click on the photo to select brush size, and etc., and then proceed to select the spots that I want to heal.

I mean a screen shoot of the screen where u r having problems.

C1 has some quirky little buttons.

Any luck with skin tone in color wheel.

Not sure how to do a screen shot. However, by adding the clone layer I seem to have got some corrections along with the cloning. Side note: I was just playing with it, and when I moved the circle around to other unrelated spots on the photo I could see that area of the background in the circle. So maybe I just need to keep playing with it some more, and in time I will get it figured out. I was going to add a before and after so that you could see what I am working with, and what I finally got, but I don't seem to be able to do that here. Anyway, thanks to everyone for your input and help. At least now I know that I didn't waste my money on this program, and that's a plus!

Not sure I understand your issue, but the healing tool is pretty straightforward in the C1 20 version. If you are having a problem locking in the healing changes, try clicking on the arrow at the top of the screen (it is the left-most choice in the cluster above "cursor tools" and points towards 11 o'clock).
