sun and moon

Looking for an app or computer program that I can input my location in advance for a moon or sun rising or setting shot. I've heard you can input a location on some programs and it will show where the sun or moon is rising or setting on a specific day. I have photo pills and sun and moon apps on my iPhone. I have this location of a small pond with towering rocks on each side I would like to get a sunset shot between the rocks.

Photopills. David Johnston talks about it all the time in his landscape videos.

PhotoPills does what you are wanting to do. They have excellent tutorials.

One more vote for Photopills as it's the swiss-army app for photography. Does what you need and lots of other things.

As ahudina mentioned, they also have excellent documentation and tutorials on their site and YouTube channel.
It costs $10, although there was a 50% Black Friday promo, not sure if it's active or not. It may be expensive for the usual $1 or $2 apps, but for all it does and as a photographic accessory, it´s quite cheap.

If you really only want to know soon and moon data, there may be free options. But I strongly suggest you evaluate Photopills, and if you decide to go for it take the time to learn it. Great tool

The photographer's ephemeris is another possibility that you may want to look at. It gives you times for sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset as well as direction for each of those.

There is an Android app specifically for this purpose.
It's called appropriately Golden Hour.

How about going to the location and setting up and waiting? That's what I do. Listen to some music, have a cup of coffee or tea and take in that photographic peaceful moment, relaxed but yet excited to get home and see the work on the big screen. :)

PhotoPills and use the Plan option. You enter the time and date for the sunrise/sunset and you can move your position on the map until you find the perfect angle for your shot.

An app called Sun Position does what you want and more, and it's free! I can hold and aim my smart phone camera to the horizon and it shows the precise spot where the sun will rise or set. It has a map screen that also pinpoint sun position on the Google map.

I like and use it a lot.
