There's no question it's Dutch. I'm a native speaker.

It's not Afrikaans. I'm a native Dutch speaker, and it's difficult for me to understand Afrikaans because over more than a century of separate evolution, it has words I don't understand because they are not Dutch as well as pronunciations that can differ significantly from Dutch.

Similar to Flemish, which sounds like a German with a speach impediment.
I am (actuallly used to be) Dutch and it is Dutch . It does not sound like Flemish (Belgian) nor from the south of the country where the “g” is softer.
I was back in Holland last year November for a reunion , my friends told me I have an American accent in Dutch and make grammatical mistakes. (It has been 40 years that I came to the US, snd I still have an accent).

Accents do that. Change, seem to "almost" go away, and then make a reappearance later get mixed up etc. etc.
Happened to me and my Southern accent. When I go to visit home they say I talk funny, esp if I toss in a Mexican Spanish word/phrase or two. I have lived in So California since the 60's and taught in a Mexican immigrant area 35 years and have a Mexican American wife.
But when I have been reading certain authors who write in "Southern" and/or I get very tired it comes back and my oldest son says he needs a copy of "Southern for Dummies" to understand me. And just tonight my wife got on my case when I pronounced a word like back home.
So just relax and enjoy the ride.
