Sigma 600 wont focus follow up.

Hi All. A week ago or so I wrote my sigma150-600 C had problems focusing.
as it turns out, in the morning it focuses and by after noon it doesnt. Being outside for 2 or 3 hours and the trouble begins.
Im shooting a lot in the everglades and some of the local parks in SW Florida.
Its HOT . The lens gets quite hot after being in the sun for hours ( a good reason to make white lenses)
Once its back in the car and cools down , it works again.
So im looking for any suggestions , any ideas on what to do. I do NOT have a camo lens cover. I was wondering if that would help keep it cool or maybe hold the heat in making it worse.

I bought mine back in August for my D7500 and haven't had any issues with it yet

The black of the lens draws (attracts) the heat. Don't have that problem here in the UK.I have that lens and am pleased with the results I get with it.

Try a white lens cover.
A nice integration to the collection.

I have never experienced problems with any of my Nikon glass in any temperature. I have had batteries not react well in freezing weather.
It may depend on how hot the lens gets. The C version of that lens is plastic and they can expand a bit and soften if they get around 200 F. If the lens is in the car, in FL, in August ??

I would contact Sigma. I use my tamron 150-600 regularly here in AZ during the summer and do not have an issue. A friend recently dropped his sigma and had it repaired. The autofocus would work for a while and then stop after sitting for a while it would work again. After a few go arounds with the repair shop they found that the wires connected to the autofocus on off switch were not connected as well as they should have been. Resoldered them and it’s working fine. Sounds like maybe heat expansion is affecting the connection. Good luck figuring it out.
Just a thought...I’ve found that as my battery starts to discharge, the focus becomes slower and less dependable. Are you starting each day with a fully charged battery? If so, you could test this by carrying a second, fully charged battery and when the focus starts to err, swap in the charged battery and see if the problem goes away. JAK

I still bet in involves the contacts on either the camera body or lens. One thought that strikes me is that metal (the contacts) expands in the heat, which should help make better contact. But rubber contracts in the heat. The rubber ring on the camera body around the lens mount might be contracting in the heat, providing a looser lens connection to the body than when the camera/lens are cooler. The tolerances are so close that even a tiny variation could potentially cause a problem.
Several yrs ago I was in Ephesis, Turkey in June and the temp was over 106 F. My 16-50 f/2.8 zoom (with black barrel) became difficult to zoom although the auto focus seemed okay. I've not had a problem since which convinces me that temporary seizing was due to temperature, not time of day. As noted in an other post, many professional level lenses, particuarly long, large aperature zooms, are white to reflect some of the heat. So don't panic yet, all may be okay once the high temperature is off......
