NEW D500 WON'T FORMAT CARDS

It's a brand new camera and it won't format memory cards, neither the XQD card or the SD, both of which are new also. Neither card is locked. In the format menu, I get to the point where I'm prompted by "All images on memory card will be deleted. OK?" The "Yes" option is highlighted blaze orange and when I press it nothing happens. The operator's manual doesn't address this and I can't find answers on YouTube or anywhere else on the net. I hope my camera isn't a dud. Has anyone had the problem?

The camera is not a dud. Someone will walk you through it.
The “OK” button is the trigger to formatting, after hitting the “Yes” button.

Push the ok button instead of the center button. I did the same when I got mine

You are very welcome. I was freaked out when I got mine. Lol. Enjoy. I bought Steve Perrys books on metering and focus. I have my 500 set up with 3 kinds of back button focus. I have group single point and area mode all set on a button. The options are endless. Have a ball with a great camera.

I freaked too. Plenty to learn with this baby. Thanks again.

Make sure have not put on the save button the cards that will stop you doing anything with them

The correct procedure is described in the user's manual.

Check the manual for the exact type of memory card! I don’t own the D500, but the D7200 is only compatible with about brands! I had a bunch of off brand cards and they won’t work and it took me awhile to figure it out! The D7200 takes these brands: SanDisk, Toshiba, Panasonic, and Lear. I hope this helps 😊
