She's a beaut! I had a '59 hard top and loved it. As I recall, your car rolled pretty nice and had oomph to spare!

A real auto mobile as my dad would say. Great photos of a great car. Thanks for making my day. I am happy today. But no happier that I was when my ride was a 59 Chevy V8. My brother had a 59 Impala with three two barrels.

You’re correct that 409 gets up and goes real quick and if I really nail the gas pedal she’ll knock your head back in the seat

I would like to share my beautiful 1961 super sport impala convertible with you she’s almost 60 years old has factory air conditioning and has every conceivable option they had in 61 except power windows
If you remember back in 1961 the Beach boys sang about my car do you remember 409?

I'll bet if a fly lit on your fender, it would slide right off.

I wish I still had my 1969 Camaro SuperSport (396-4speed) - had to get rid of it in 1976 when I could not get 3 car seats in the back - damn kids.

Nice ride ,hope you got the 4 speed also .

I don’t think the 409 was available with the powerglide; a 4-speed was the only option. If I’m wrong, I stand corrected.

Sorry to tell you you are wrong my 409 as the GM 700 R4 automatic transmission,
It was an expensive option in 1961 a lot of people didn’t opt for it it was either that or the four-speed ,..the two speed powerglide would’ve gotten ripped apart with that engine

Yeah, me too. I had a 61 2door 283 4bbl dual exhaust. I went to the dealer and bought the front and rest emblems with the flags on it so it looked liked the 348. I do the same thing in cameras. Putting the D850 badge on my Nikon D750. (Not serious).
My biggest regret is selling my brand new 1969 Mach1, red with the gold stripes. I sold it in 74 because it was a pain to get my beautiful 1st daughter in the back seat. My back hurts yet from bending in a certain way from getting her in the child seat and my heart breaks from selling my other baby.
Oh well... the things we do for love.

Thanks ! I learned something. I had no idea the 700 R4 was available in ‘61.
