...AF-S Nikkor DX 35mm 1.8 G... on the D3300 it will act like a 52mm lens...$199 new
You didn't mention if you already have a lens; most cameras these days come with a lens. In your case, the D3300 would already have an 18-55 kit lens. I've had one on my D5100 for many years, and, make no mistake, that lens is totally capable of taking "professional" photos! Be it landscape or bugs, I've gotten so many amazing shots with that lens, no other lens was needed for 90% of my shooting. It is sharp, focuses fast, close if necessary, and accurate; rendering beautiful colors. If you don't already have a lens, I'm sure you can get a used 18-55 kit lens for a very low price. As others have suggested, however, an 18-140, or 18-200 will be more versatile.

Actually, I carry that in a pocket as walk around glass with a 50 1.8 in the other pocket and an 85 1.8 mounted if I walk in the evening ... sometimes the 180 2.8 also.
I keep a 18-105 VR on my D5600 most of the time. It takes decent pics, but I am tempted to upgrade to the 18-300 for the extra "reach".

The Nikon 18-140 is a good walk-around lens that could be had for a good price used. The 18-130 not so good....
I would agree the 18-140MM has been the kit lens for the Dxxx Series Cameras. Used/refurbished <=$300.
Take a look at KenRockwell.com He is an independent person with in depth knowledge & reports on all things Nikon, bodies & lenses..

I am VERY happy with 18--140mm. It stays on my d5500 most of the time. VR works great allowing me to use slow shutter speed.

I am a pensioner for a liking for photography, I have a Nikon D3300 camera and was wondering if anyone could tell me the best lens for landscape photography, I cannot afford the professional level lens.
Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 - a GREAT all-around lens, new or used - affordable !

I would agree that the shorter kit zoom lens is decent. You might also try the older fixed length NIKKOR lenses designed for film cameras, like the 28mm f/3.5. Any NIKKOR lens will work on the D3300 as long as if you don't mind giving up automatic features, depending on the lens.
For wide shots, maybe you can find a Tokina 11-16 DX. It’s a great lens.

One of the things I love about my DOMKE PHOTOGS vest and jacket is that it’s very easy to pack several primes.
Look for a used Nikon 16-85 f3.5/5.6 VR. Adorama, B&H, Amazon, and mph all have this great lens at times. It spends more time on my D5600 than all other lenses combined. Not quite as fast as the 16-80 on my D7500 but the results from it are just as good.
18 to 105 mm VR Will work best for you also not as heavy as the 200 mm
