What tool did your use to do the editing. If you used something like LR you can reset all the photos so the unedit is at least not time consuming. If you shot raw send them the raw file. If you shot jpg and no reset ability, tell them you have no idea what the original looked like and can't do it.

All this depends on how well you want to keep the relationship. Is it tacky thing to do, hell yes. Just chalk it up to experience of what not to do again or how to charge if they want originals.

Did you ask why they wanted the unedited pics? Even though you did it for nothing, the photos may not meet their expectations and you may want to drill down to see why.

A few lessons to be learned!

It could be they might think either some people may have been cropped out, or they may not like your choice of saturation/color balance. Graciously send them the originals with a smile. If you have learned anything, chalk it up to experience.

Put the originals on a disc or thumb drive, send them to the couple, dust off your hands and walk away. There are far, far worse stories about similar situations. Next time, if you ever decide to do it again, a contract would be a good idea.

Fully Agreed QuixDraw

You finger is on the 'pulse' ..... the shadow of a 'learning process' we all have been through

ha ha ha

Best to send them the files, smile and walk away. If good friends no sense throwing it away. Calk it up to a learning experience.

Weddings for free turn into nightmares for many of those that thought they were being nice.

Depending how close you are to these people, I'd ignore the request. If they pursue it, tell them you deleted the pictures.

Be very nice in your reply. Tell them something like, " I really liked photographing your wedding, I am happy that you like the images I sent you. I have always retained all rights to my original images. The images that were sent were my finished product. I can send the edited images to you once more if that would be acceptable. Again, thank you for allowing me to photograph your wedding, I really enjoyed being part of the experience, let me know if you want me to forward my finish images once more."

I would probably tell them to piss off. I have done a few weddings many, many moons ago. It can be a nerve racking experience.

Don't ignore the possibility that your evaluation of how satisfactory the editing is doesn't coincide with their evaluation. In that situation I would want the photos to simply look like well taken photos. If your editing has gone beyond that they may (quite understandably) see it as too much.

Just curious how large the wedding was and were all participants wearing masks? If so, they might want to have someone do the magic of erasing the masks.

The OP has the right not to give them any images but they feel they really want the SOOC or RAW files perhaps they think the OP didn't do a good job editing.
Well once again the OP has the right to do it or not but that what they feel. They feel they could get better images out of the RAW files than the edited images the OP gave them.

Images will forever have your name attached, no matter what they do to them. So I'd make them like you want and leave it at that. Pretty poor on their part to gripe about free!

It is not that big of a deal. Send the photographs and think no more about it.
