I love bare trees.... I love to drive down a country road and look at them..... They have so much character and so many stories to tell...... I love how they bend and curl and reach for the sky.... Trees with beautiful leaves blowing in the wind are nice to look at, to listen to, but when the leaves are gone and they are standing before you, that is when you see the true beauty.... I realize that we are all from different places, and it may be difficult to find a tree with no leaves, but look a little deeper and see the ones that have been around for awhile and are nearing the end of their lives...Look at their beautiful, mature bones.....take a shot, and then share it with us.....

A song by van morrison while you look at the pics...Hope you enjoy ithttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwtmpVWmD44

Frankie, I think you are still as mischievous as your 'naughty Little Frankie' avatar !!! I hope my 1st grandchild (whenever), is one of those !

Subroto, you and I might be the only ones still awake, although on the west coast it's still early.

I remember a poem we had to learn in grade school. To think that I would ever see, A poem as lovey as a tree, A tree whose mouth is softly pressed, aganst the earths sweet loving Breast. It goes on But thats all I remember. That one and The owl and the pussy cat went to see in a beautiful pea green boat. Dont remember any of that one. Never did like having to learn that stuff. Now I wish I did.

Hal, I really appreciate your memory / sentiments about those old poems. A few nursery rhymes still come back to me, including classic ones like "Hey Diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon !
The little dog laughed to see such fun and the fork ran away with the spoon !"
Might make a nice Daily Challenge: picturising those will really pose a great photographic challenge, probably involving a lot of post as well.
I guess I've still got a useful little fund of those little ditties stashed away for my grandchildren, as and when they come along -- provided I'm still around then !

Page 26: Well, catgirl, Nicholas Cage's "Leaving Las Vegas" (with Elizabeth Shue) is one of my all-time favourites. He's Francis Ford Coppola's nephew, changed his name, wanted to make it under his own steam...and boy -- DID HE !!!
A close friend of mine used to be the manager of a Bank of America branch in Las Vegas, a long time ago, and his tales about Caesar's Palace are fascinating ! He later took charge of the Hollywood branch in Los Angeles, and his clientele included most of the great stars of the time including Big John Wayne, Frank Sinatra and Yul Brynner !! Sitting here, in New Delhi, I think America can be all about adventure, if you want it that way.

it sure is subroto, there are a lot of really interesting places and stories around here

Hello all. Well, your challenge inspired me to go out for a walk this morning. Sunny, tho windy. But in the woods, much calmer. So glad I did. Soon after lunch, the weather got DREARY!

Will share a few from today, and a couple of from my archives.

This also seems to be a day for poems, so I will share one of mine:

Joe V... we are glad you decided to walk too.... but I love the kaleidescope one... which program did you do this with. My kaleidescopes don't come out like that...
AUTUMN GLORY

I exult in fine
and final days,
when the forest
takes a mitten off
and points,
to test the frosty wind;
followed hard by days
of brown
and bone-white branches.

I speak of bright
and brilliant days,
when slant light
candles the woods
to yellow flame!

I tell
of such holidays,
when orange fire
crackled in the bush
but left no ashes.

Sing with me
of dancing days
when leaves go merry
round in a whirl!

Then, when leaves are tangled
in blond grasses
like confetti
in bridal tresses,
whisper of days
when grief and grandeur wed.

And now,
celebrate in stillness
a God whose glory
hangs on trees.
J. Veltman
