I'm certainly learning that. I'm encouraged now to get this thing up and running. I'm planning to work with it later today or tomorrow. I've ordered the suggested PNC pistol grips (should be arriving today). I think that will give me the added stability I need. I've been working with weights to strengthen my wrists for target shooting (9mm Pistol) and I think that might just help me with the new toy. Appreciate your photo. Looking forward to making some interesting shots.

I think your first move is to acquire a wimberley mount for that lense. I did

I've checked out Wimberley mount and come up with a gimbel style mount, but they also have a dozen plates. Are you talking about the gimbel style mount? It seems it would give the unit more flexibility. It works pretty well on my current tripod, but I'm interested in your opinion.

It will shoot indoors as well. You can easily set it up on a tripod indoors and play. It's a good lens.

I've wanted this lens from the moment it was first offered. I figured it would bring the other world (birds and far off objects to me). I was hoping to bring it on an animal photography safari with me. I'm not sure, now. I need to work with heavy duty weights to get this to be easy to carry. I'm not even sure my camera would appreciate having this hanging on a neck strap. I knew that it weighed a bit more than a "standard" zoom lens, but really was surprised how heavy it really is.

The lens itself is beautiful to behold. I know I absolutely must have it on a tripod. I'm not at all reluctant to use one. I've already attached the adapter to the bracket on the lens.

Now I will tell you. Today is a very windy day with showers then sunshine, then downpour, then who knows what. Nothing outside is standing still. I've taken about 20 shots and I think today is not the day to try to nail down this lens.

I would love to know how long it took you to learn how to maximize this lens. I know I will love it once I get the hang of making beautiful distance shots with it, but WOW, I'm overwhelmed by it right now
I've wanted this lens from the moment it was first... (show quote)

Either the full Wimberly gimbal or the Wimberly sidekick on a ball head work great. I use the Wimberly monoGimbal on a monopod with that lens and it’s great.

Generally "Arca Type" plate will work. Kirk NC-200-500V2 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens
BH #KINC200500V2 • MFR #NC-200-500V2 -- at B&H for $210

There are likely others, but this is a very high quality plate.
