You don't need 20 fps for non moving objects. One poster here compared the 20 fps of the Canon R5 to the 14 fps of the Nikon Z6 II. It turns out that the 20 fps of the Canon is when it's using electronic shutter. The Nikon does 14 fps with mechanical shutter.

Man your spot on. When I open up with my 9fps D850, folks take notice. Nothing like a big old hunking mirror going up and down 9 times a second to scare off everything within a 100 yards.

I agree. The only benefit that I can see with electronic shutter is that it's absolutely quiet. Downsides include distortion when photographing something in motion and banding.

I did not experience distortion or banding, but auto focus is slower than my D500 or D850.

I am a Canon shooter and I don't do very much video so I chose the R6. Basically the same sensor as the dx1 mark iii which many sports and news photographers shoot with. The 20 movie sensor gives the right amount of speed and quality. For sports shooters the large pixel sizes create a huge file sizes. Unless you shoot a lot of high quality video, 2 uhs ii slots is quite fine. For editing of pictures, 45 mp files means slower workflow pointless you have a very fast processor with a lot of memory. The rumor is that Canon will be releasing both a R1 to replace the DX1 mark iii and megapixel mirrorless.

I was needing a new camera this year and the R6 meets my needs. How many people unless doing professional landscapes, portraits and the like need a camera like the R5 or top of the line cameras.

Talk about distortion! The picture is so distorted that it makes the Red-Tail Hawk look like an Osprey

Other than that, it is a great capture!

Could it be the lens? Taken with the Z7 and the 500mm f5.6 PF. The attached shot was the same lens on the D500. Second image is same lens on the D850.

Haha...bravo Tomcat. I'm looking forward to shooting in a gym with the Z6II and the Z 70-200 f2.8...that combo should be deadly. (Plus that lens will focus at 20 inches which is amazing...)

For the dim gyms that I have to shoot in, I have to use at least f/1.8 to keep the ISO below 12,000. I use both the Nikkor Z-85 mm, f/1.8 S for basketball and a Sigma Art 135mm f/1.8 for volleyball. Switching from my old venerable D3s to the Z6 has been an incredible experience. Colors, clarity, and reality are so much better. The 70-200 is too much weight for me. Good luck and you will really enjoy this experience. There is nothing like the Z6 for indoor sports.

Take another glance - dual card slots, true vertical grip, dual EX6 processors, better low light AF, better video performance, faster fps, larger buffer, so there a few significant improvements, BUT these are what they should have been 2 years ago. Some video aficionados bemoan the lack of a full swivel screen. I think they were able to keep the intro price lower due to tooling costs captured with the first models. I am still waiting for the Z version of the D500 in every way or better just Z version mirrorless. The Z9 is supposed to be a beast camera coming out later. To me the Z5 is just not worth it unless price lowered or FTZ adapter thrown in.

Isn’t the Z50 the mirrorless D500?

No. I have both. IMHO, the Z50 is more akin to the D5600. The D500 is supercharged with dedicated AF processor, dual card slots, higher resolution LCD, longer battery life, etc. It is the premiere DX format camera. The Z50 is a wonderful camera, but not professional.

.....Why not upgrade that EVF? 3 mil is abysmal by today's standards. Again...isn't that the big beef on why dslr users didn't want to switch and leave their optical viewfinder behind? No?.....

And increase the price for... what? You might consider 3.7 mil "abysmal" if you place pixel count ahead of what you see in the viewfinder, but image quality of the Z camera EVFs is widely considered among the best.
Regarding DSLR users loving their optical viewfinders, Thom Hogan had the following to say about not upgrading the EVF in the new Z's:

"Nikon's an optical company, first and foremost. To them, it's not the pixel count of the viewfinder that's the most important, it's how the image appears to the eye of the user. I've used a lot of EVF cameras. The Z6 and Z7 are about the best of the bunch, regardless of dot counts, refresh speeds, or other attributes. The Z6 and Z7 are the "most like" DSLRs I've seen, too. I often forget I'm using a mirrorless camera when I pick up my Z's."

Lol..what else can they say?
Canon is near 6. Sony is near 6 and even has a 9. These Nikons are BRAND NEW...6 was around when the LAST Z's were released...two years ago.
Forget innovation...Nikon isn't even bothering with keeping up.

I’ll take the raw files out of my Z7 any day. I don’t have a problem with the viewfinder. Just as megapixels aren’t the end-all/be-all when choosing a camera, the dots in the viewfinder aren’t a big deal after a certain point. It sounds good when you’re selling it but you’re not gonna see the difference. From the little I’ve seen of your work viewfinder resolution isn’t gonna help.

Uh huh...sure.
Hey, if you're happy to be spoonfed while other comapnies lead the way...fine.
There's a reason why Nikon is third...and is going to stay third.
