At Port Royal State Park, TN. There is about 200 yards of the original trail. The Cherokee rested for a few days here. The third photo is the Sulphur Fork River. Light green at the end of the water is the Red River. I was standing on an 1898 bridge. Neat little park.
Nice shots, looks like a good place to visit.
A part of this nation's history of which we cannot be proud, and never should be forgotten. Thanks for posting this reminder.
Some of the trail is marked in Illinois also with those signs.

Thanks all! Only second posting, just wanted to try out the new fiber we are hooked up to now. Yes, It was a sorry time in our history. This little park is off the beaten path but only 6 miles from I24. Today I saw one person there in the hour I spent.
Interesting photos of extremely sad history

I graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1967 and go back for reunions every 5 - 10 years. When I go back for the next one I shall make a point of visiting this site. Thanks again for posting it.

A very somber place. I don't think they had ILM back then. Indian lives Matter

Same group, As I understand it, they marched from here to Gulcona, then across to the Mississippi and embarked on steamboats down river to the Red and up it into OK.
Some years back I visited a site in Illinois that was supposedly part of the trail. They had things pretty delineated and gave a history of the march. What a somber part of our national history.
Strange how names in history sticks -- INDIAN for example comes from Colombus' seach for the East by sailing west --- these native "Americans" aren't Indians but we continue to perpetrate this false idea. "Indians" should refer to the people native to India! I don't trust history books that much!
