A question has been brought up while trying to shoot the milky way having to do with how to set up the interval timer on a Canon camera (5D Mark Iv and 80D in particular). I have read the Canon manual and it is not plain (at least to me).
When I set up an interval, is it the interval between the start of one photo and the start of the next photo OR
is it the interval between the end of one photo and the start of the next.
As an example, in the first case, I am shooting a night shot 20 seconds in duration and I want 2 seconds between shots, I would set up the interval to be 22 seconds. In the second case, same shot length (20 seconds), I set up the interval timer to be 2 seconds.
Any help on which way the camera is suppose to be set up is appreciated.

A friend and I both have the 5D IV and have struggled with this. I know this doesn’t seem possible, but I have seen the camera act both ways. The last time I was doing multiple 30 second exposures I set it at 32 seconds and it worked that way. I too suggest that you test whatever exposure length you intend to use before going into the field.
