Hello! I am hoping someone can give me some advice from experience! I have the Pelican 1560 for my gear and am taking a trip tomorrow. I know it’s technically bigger than the dimensions allowed, but I’m wondering if it may still fit. I know, I know, but the flights are only 1/3 full so that‘s the only reason I’m trying (it isn’t taking space from someone else)!

So my question: has anyone traveled on a delta plane with a pelican 1560 as a carry on?

Your bag is 22.1" x 17.9" x 10.4" and the carry on overhead size 22” x 14” x 9”. Your problem will be when they try to secure the overhead luggage door and it may not close because of the 4" discrepancy.

But the way I’m seeing it is it’s just 4” wider than it should be. The height and depth I think could fit?

I have the 1535 and I have never had a problem, if that helps.

Don't worry. If it doesn't fit, they will "gate check" it for you.

Yes, it will fit. If your are on a Boeing 717 (3/2 seating) it probably not fit on the 2 seat side with the smaller overhead.

A Boeing 767 and then an Airbus A319. I’m looking at it compared to my carry on I’ve used since 2005 and never had an issue with, and it’s really not toooooo much bigger. Maybe only 2-3 inches wider. I Super hope it fits... I’d hate to check this thing.

The airline probably won't notice-but, what if they do? If you're not willing to give it up (check it aboard at the gate) I wouldn't take it. You won't win an argument about it.

Some airlines such as Spirit airlines check baggage size at the gate.
If yours does not fit in the box then they will have to move it to checked backage.
I would check with the airlines first instead of being surprised later.

You need to tell us which plane and which airline as well. The problem may be the 10.4 inch height on several planes. Some airlines, like American, are filling the planes so you may not be able to fit it on with the dimensions and be forced to gate check.

I've got a 1510 but it is made to the max dimensions for carryon. I used to worry about my 1510 and now you want to carryon a bag that isn't the correct dimensions? I'd be too worried. Delta is probably the most strict airlines too. If they don't like how you look they will kick you off a flight so I wouldn't chance it unless you are willing to let them put your stuff in the cargo hold and trust that the thieves don't get their hands on your stuff.
